I browsed some guides and wikis and did a calculation of all weapons and upgrades.
Total cost:
995 diamonds

Suit case collectibles: 221 diamonds
Assassination missions: 150 diamonds
Main missions: 470 diamonds

If I calculated everything correctly and didn't miss anything, this means you're 154 diamonds short to buy everything.
But I guess you probably won't buy all repair upgrades for all weapons and cars anyway.

there are 1,000 diamonds in the game. Everything comes to a cost of 1,000...meaning if you buy everything you have 0.

The guides and wikis are wrong. Want proof, check my profile....got 2 screenys of the stat pages after finishing a completitionist run. You'll see 1,000 diamonds collected, and 0 diamonds remaining.

Karma is correct. It takes a lot of work, but you can buy everything.

Bonz - there are 221 diamond suitcases, but each one can hold between 1 and 3 diamonds. I'm not sure if it's random or pre-set, but the actual diamond total there gets you to 1000.

The cases have a pre-set amount according to a FAQ, and I verified this by trying to reload cases a few times and it stayed the same.

yes they are preset. In most cases the 3 diamond cases are the harder ones to get...sometimes requiring a hangglider or so to reach.

Ah, thanks for the update.

Side missions include assassinations, buddy missions, and weapon shop missions. I've gotten to 42 before, by rescuing every buddy in the game and doing every last one of their buddy missions. I've never gotten 43 - I'd like to know about this one too...

1000 is correct. But you have to remember to collect every single diamond case in the north before heading south. Or you will never be able to cross back into that area, and therefore won't be able to upgrade everything.

I can personally recall from when I played this on the xbox however that there is indeed 1000 diamonds. Confirmed. Any guide or wiki that tells you otherwise is completely incorrect.

You technically don't NEED every diamond mind you, because you don't NEED every upgrade, you'll probably have one or two favourite weapons and then the rest will just be stats.

What do you mean by "But you have to remember to collect every single diamond case in the north before heading south. Or you will never be able to cross back into that area"??

I go back and forth constantly.

The game is split into two parts, or acts if you will. Act 1 aka the first half of the game is set in a "Northern" section of africa. Act 2 which starts after you decide wether to defend the bar with your buddies or defend the church in the main town. You are "killed" and loaded onto a truck with other bodies, but you fall off the back in a desert area, and then the jackal saves you again.

You then travel to a "southern" section of africa. It may have just been a limitation of the Xbox version (which is the last time I played it) that you couldn't move between them freely, but I'm pretty sure you can't go back and forth freely between map 1 and map 2. Unless there is a mod for it?

Nope, totally not true for PC version, unless I did something allow me to go back, but I doubt it. There is a very narrow road on the Western edge and if you stray even 20 feet off the side of the road, the game freaks-out. Once you reach the transistion area - you have to wait for the other map to load. There is no way I could have played so long if I could not go back.

I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with the PC version then.

I prefer the Southern area, but I go North to mix it up.
