Can't get the promotional content again!

OK, I reformatted my hard drive and had to install Far Cry 2 again. However, I can't access the promotional content again! The machinate is showing up but not the predecessor missions.

I deleted my online profile and created a new one but it would still not work. I keep getting the message, "You must be log in first"

This is so frustrating! Last year I could do this and thought that the content would be permanently locked into my account. But this is not the case. I have to re-enter everything and this time, it did not work despite deleting my online profile and recreating a new one.

Please advise.

Did you put in the credentials for your uPlay account? That's what you're supposed to use to access the bonus content.

I had the problem that the game told me im signed in but I wasnt.
This was due to a password character bug. Far Cry 2 dont take all sort of letters from specific passwords, also it shouldnt be to long.
Try to remove things like # or * from your password in the Uplay account settings.

Thanks but the problem is, my UPlay password has all numericals and alphabetical characters. It does not have # or *. Before I reformatted my hard drive, I could get it to work after a few attempts but now, it just keeps saying "You must be logged in first".

I deleted and recreated my online profile time and time again but to no avail.

I know - that's what you're supposed to use. When you say you 'recreated your online profile', do you mean creating a new online profile using the in-game profile creator? That's the problem. This game was released before uPlay was a thing, and when uPlay was created the game moved its online profiles over to users' uPlay accounts - but they didn't change the in-game text screens to tell you that. Don't create a new account - just connect by using your uPlay's Profile name (not the email address, but the profile name) and password.

wait what extra content? all ive ever gotten is the 3 start guns and whatever else this steam special edition has. but no extra tapes or missions....

Sorry - I just re-did it myself to remind myself how to do it. You can use B33 ENN's guide on how to access it for some handy screenshots, and his description is pretty good, so here's the nutshell.

First, before you start - write down your CD Key and have your uPlay account's legacy profile name and password. ** I note this because I just logged into my uPlay account on ubi.com and I saw that they recently implemented this new feature where you can change your uPlay username. However, they saved what your old uPlay name used to be and named it your legacy username. That legacy username is what you need, as well as your regular uPlay account password.

Now, when you start the game, ignore the multiplayer link and go straight to additional content, then click promotional content. Now, at this screen if you have reinstalled you will see on the left a screen to 'create profile'. This is where the confusion with my earlier instruction comes in - technically, according to the game, you are creating a new profile, but what you actually do here is put in the credentials for your uPlay account - put that legacy profile in as your username, your uPlay password as the password, and then your CD key for the online key. If that works, it will bring you to the next screen where it asks again for the key to unlock the promotional content. put the CD key in again, and then it should tell you that you've unlocked everything.

You will be able to tell instantly if it worked because your in-game pause menu will show 'Predecessor Tapes' right after Jackal Tapes.

Thank you so much for your help! It worked! Apparently I have to key in my correct uPlay account password. Silly me!

By the way, when I changed the resolution to 1900 x 1080 and click apply plus changing the settings to Direct X10, I can't seem to change the brightness of the game or the gamma.

Before changing the resolution plus to change it to Direct X10, the brightness can be changed. However after changing them, the game remains dark no matter what I do?

Do you experience the same problem if you change the Direct X settings to 10?

Thanks :) But, sorry I can't be more help about the DX10 thing. I left my resolution settings as they were out-of-the-box - I've got an old 4x3 monitor that's pretty dim anyway, so I just leave it as-is. (My whole system overall is pretty old, except for win 8.1... state of the art for 2007 when I built it, though.)

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ man its been 2 years until someone replied to this discussion. Im just searching every single guide but none of them are working... I got correct Uplay Username, password and cd key but still "You must be log in first". I think I will try my old pc.
