Save anywhere? Or save at those blue boxes?

Game "trains" me to interact with the white box with blue disc icon on it to save, but I was told I could save any time anywhere using SAVE button?

F5 = quick save (anytime, anywhere).

You can even regular save. It's a holdover from the console version. Totally meaningless and voluntary for PC users.

So basically I DON'T need to interact with the white box with blue disc icon to save. I could just go to Menu and Save from there, correct?

Yes. You only need to use the blue box once at most, and that's in the tutorial.

I seem to remember one of the difficulty levels (maybe Infamous) that disabled saving anywhere other than Safe Houses and the blue save boxes. Even in the menu, Save Game was greyed out.

I personally can't imagine playing far cry 2 on consoles. Many interactions with random patrols make me dead on pc so i just say some profanities to myself and press f9 when on console youre toasted xd
And the box-you don't even have to ssave there, just use it and press don't save and that'sall. God bless f5 (quicksave).
