Thank you all for helping out here and sharing your experiences with DX 9 and DX 10, when playing Far Cry 2.
Hi $ D@rk Re@per $. As mentioned above, DX 9 should run the game well, without issue. Should you happen upon any issues, however, please be in touch and we'd be happy to help.

Never use DX10 in FC2

Playing for years with DX9 no problem. Had a long break from FC2. Came back and tried DX10. Still works beautifully. Hours and hours of bloodshed and mayhem without incident.
THEN.. I tried a mod for the first time in FC2 and that's when the problems started.
Tom's Mod was heralded as the best mod going and that's the one I used.
The game would randomly crash after about 15mins or so. It didn't matter where I was or what I was doing either. Besides the game ran perfectly sans mod.
So I trashed the whole game and reinstalled it and kept playing vanilla in DX10.
Talked to folks from FarCry2Crew who were adamant that the mod works great and there must be some kind of issue at my end.
They were right. It was DX10. I changed back to DX9, installed the mod again and the game runs just beautifully.
There is 'something' about it. Is it because it's close to home ? and not a bunch of monsters?
I don't know.
Tom's Mod just makes a great game all the better and if that's only on DX9 then bring that s**t the f**k on.
I've come to believe that mods are essential to have fluid gun-play. Reducing bullet
sponginess, slightly improved jump height / leap distance levels the playing field.
Engagements in general are faster more exciting and are much more realistic feeling.
Love the ai in infamous !

I've spent many a pleasant evening on a roof top with a flare pistol. Fireworks at sunset
is so romantic... < sigh >
