Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2

Difference between directx version?
Any visual or performance difference(input lag, bugs, frametime etc)? I'm too lazy to benchmark both...:steambored:
I've seen somewhere that DX10 causes weird bugs

DX9 has better grass variation. There's no tangible advantage in using DX10.

More stable in DX 9

Should launch with Multi-fix to avoid bugs

More on that, weapons + more

a lot is the simple answer. Older games cannot recognise DX12, at least in my experience. I had to recently re-download my steam library. a couple then asked me to insert DX9 as opposed to the already installed DX12. I have no regrets in clicking Yes

Never games cannot as well. And most run better in 11 than 12.But what does it have to do with directx 9 and 10 options in Far cry 2?
Hello there everyone!

Thank you all for helping out here and sharing your experiences with DX 9 and DX 10, when playing Far Cry 2.

Hi $ D@rk Re@per $. As mentioned above, DX 9 should run the game well, without issue. Should you happen upon any issues, however, please be in touch and we'd be happy to help.

Over View
Tighter Code for Devs
Unified Architecture
Geometry shaders
Reduced CPU overhead

about the differences; makes for a good read: enjoy

If property utilized, which 10 rarely was.

Never use DX10 in FC2

Just my 2c worth..
Playing for years with DX9 no problem. Had a long break from FC2. Came back and tried DX10. Still works beautifully. Hours and hours of bloodshed and mayhem without incident.
THEN.. I tried a mod for the first time in FC2 and that's when the problems started.
Tom's Mod was heralded as the best mod going and that's the one I used.
The game would randomly crash after about 15mins or so. It didn't matter where I was or what I was doing either. Besides the game ran perfectly sans mod.
So I trashed the whole game and reinstalled it and kept playing vanilla in DX10.
Talked to folks from FarCry2Crew who were adamant that the mod works great and there must be some kind of issue at my end.
They were right. It was DX10. I changed back to DX9, installed the mod again and the game runs just beautifully.

DX10 iirc has better distance shadow rendering, but DX9 has beautiful grass)

Gameplay has always been king for me, above all else. Quake 2 is still in the top 5 for me even though it's gettin on past 25yrs and only because of the sheer terror whilst playing. FC2 holds much of that too.
There is 'something' about it. Is it because it's close to home ? and not a bunch of monsters?
I don't know.
Tom's Mod just makes a great game all the better and if that's only on DX9 then bring that s**t the f**k on.

I've come to believe that mods are essential to have fluid gun-play. Reducing bullet
sponginess, slightly improved jump height / leap distance levels the playing field.
Engagements in general are faster more exciting and are much more realistic feeling.
Love the ai in infamous !

[EDIT] (Redux mod) [E]

I've spent many a pleasant evening on a roof top with a flare pistol. Fireworks at sunset
is so romantic... < sigh >
