I can kneel down and stand up, can't get him to lay down to hide,am I missing something? I just can't figure it out. Unless, he can't lay down.

Crouching is as close to hiding as it gets. As long as the grass around you is reasonably tall you can stealth fairly easily as long as nobody is looking in your direction (in which case you want to stand still until they look away). Night and stormy weather are also good and there's a camo suit available as well that lets you become virtually invisible to the enemy as long as you're still and the grass around you is tall enough (compared to normal you can be much closer to an enemy before they spot you).

there is none and you don't need it.
Like Pjoenix said, get the camo suit and crouch in tall grass
