Basically it has something to do with lighting. Just read the section on "Design and Operation" as you scroll down, you'll see it. Also, towards the bottom shows a list of games that support it, not very many game titles really. Supports Far Cry 2.

I bought an amBX kit just to find out for myself. It's pretty fun, and Far Cry 2 is my favorite game that supports it. It provides a strong rumbling effect, and blows air in your face when you travel at speed.
But is it worth the trouble getting and setting up? No. It's back in its' box as it takes up so much space, and fully supported games are far between.
