When it comes to the "true developer vision", that is another argument raised sometimes by the modders: "we fixed the game according to what it should have been" - according to whom and whom for? Again, it is what it is. I agree all modding effort should be appreciated but simultaneously I disagree any mod contains the ultimate truth about the game. One may like the game or not, see some potential or not - but this is another topic. Some mods are more useful to some players, some mods are less useful to some players, that is all to it. I do imagine though that every modder dreams of somehow replacing the original game with own creation - the instinct to dominate, especially in a competitive field.
It can be done, certainly for oneself. If you enjoy your game, it is already a major success. Once I have modded 'Doom 3' for myself. I enjoyed the game a lot better, but after some time I realized to probably be alone or among very few who use the mod given and that the mod is very much tailored to my personal preference and a lot of players could dislike it, even myself did I see faults in the way it was set up. Moreso, I did not enjoy unmodded 'Doom 3'. The mod was mostly about basic gunplay, balance, stuff. The question is, if I forced everyone to use my mod or make the mod "canon" - would I stop being alone or feeling to be alone? Further question is, could even the multiplayer or massive multiplayer online experience stop my sense of loneliness? Would having a family with children of own, a pet dog or cat, an aquarium with the fishes, a cosy place to live, make me feel not lonely? We are human and no digital medium is going to answer our questions, because our journey goes beyond, our questions also do come from beyond. We are biological creatures of origin, we are hunters emerging from the wild planes of primordial supercontinent and we are also wanderers and seekers by nature. If we give up gaming and go seeking into the zone of our souls, minds and spirits, so be it - make it worthy experience. If you can find a shard of that eternal unrest in a digital gaming medium, then you are lucky to have found anything at all. I do not play 'Doom 3' anymore.
It would be nice to visit Africa one day, even though that is grossly unprecise statement.
For the "grossly unprecise statement", Africa is a continent and one can visit either part of it, have different experience. Egypt is Africa and so is Zimbabwe. Likewise with Europe. Spain is not Poland and France is not Germany.
Anyhow, I believe modders mod because they can, not because they see reason to, which is not to say there are no critical patches or legitimate game problems addressed among these.
The subject I was referring to is quite narrowly defined.
I was speaking only of the benefits of mods preserving and refining game play.
It's a very simple basic uncomplicated reality. You prefer your game unmodded,
and I have no problem with that.
That's not accurate.
Redux, and Realism+ Redux by extension doesn't even need to tweak the dunia.dll any more.
All .dll changes are handled by injection at launch via the Multi-Fixer now.
We've extensively tweaked things under the hood to the get absolute most out of the engine when using the Ultra graphics options.
BLAM! - That's what i needed to hear. - Thanks BT 8 )
I probably tried to mod 'Doom 3' in own amateurish way back in the day, because I believed there is a legitimate realistic shooter hidden somewhere underneath all the zombie cheesy apocalypse. I had a mod in mind, call it "Fear of Doom" sometimes. I thought that if to tweak gunplay to make it more visceral ('Killatomate' did a great job regarding this one, from older entries), as well as introduce a 'F.E.A.R.' psychological horror gimmick conveyed through environmental storytelling - only within 'Doom 3' ambiance of abstract half-dead industrial complex - that would be neat. Protagonist was to fight only human-based opponents, combat drones and turrets. I imagined further that if to move 'Doom 3' slightly towards 'F.E.A.R.' but without much fancy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 'F.E.A.R.' was stumbling over, that could maybe do.
I guess intuitively I have estimated that was all either beyond my scope or not worth of my time altogether. Who knows, maybe some day in the future, when I actually can do code.
If to think about it, in terms of 'Far Cry 2' - at least under actual conditions - one could not really do any sensible indoors thing. With 'Far Cry' the original, perhaps chances are better.
