Far Cry 2

Can I call a buddy to help me out?
Like, I'm in middle of a gunfight, me alone versus 30 other dudes. Can I call a buddy like Warren to arrive and help me fight them?

I know that I can die, so Josip comes, revives me and fights alongside me.

No. So many features that beg to be in the game but aren't.

It wasn't finished and isn't moddable, unfortunately.

Still a great game though

Yeah, it's a pity you can't call for help. But I wonder, even if you could, do you think help could arrive quickly enough? You know, like, poof--here I am to save your skin?

It would make sense if they drove from the nearest safehouse, which should be pretty fast.

I suppose that would depend on which safe house was the last one you in which your buddy was staying, whether is was nearby or not. BTW, I've always wondered just how is it your buddy knows when you're in need of help. I mean really; is he/she following you around staying just out of sight watching the action through binoculars? Maybe your character has one of those signal watches like Jimmy Olsen used to signal his pal Superman. Zee, zee, zee! :steamhappy:

The simple answer is always in the fact that the game was unfinished.

Understanding they couldn't implement or properly port everything they've planned, the team started cutting features and polished as much as they could of what is already in the game.

As far as I know the flare gun also functioned as a 'call for reinforcements' thing both for you and the enemies. The enemies still fire one sometimes in the final game but I've never seen reinforcements come. Maybe it just attracts nearby patrol trucks.

Supposedly your buddy would drive in soon after, but as you can see they have no proper AI to drive, sit in the passenger seat or even follow you around.
You've probably noticed that many of the game's elements beg for coop, which was never implemented either.

I've seen enemies fire the flare gun many times throughout the game (usually when they're getting their butts kicked); you're correct though, all it usually does is attract the attention of patrol vehicles.

As for the players' character, the only way that would work is if they carried a flare gun as a permanent permanent part of their load-out. Never had much use for the thing myself. It's great for starting fires, but then again, so is a Molotov.

Anyway, it would be nice just to have a reasonable explanation of how your buddy knows when to come to the rescue.

When you meet a buddy in a safehouse and ask them to help you, they say something along the lines of "I'll be around". Obviously this line varies each buddy, but I always got the impression they're keeping an eye on you, not interfering until you go down, like you said.

You'd think your rescue buddy would have something better to do than follow your character around the entire game. After all, they must have stuff of their own they want to accomplish. How about this: The character calls his buddy in advance of each job and makes arrangements for them to be in the vicinity--just in case. That seems to make a little more sense to me because when you first meet your rescue buddy at Mike's, they indicate that they can be counted on if you need help. It's similar to taking on a buddy mission, completing it to set your buddy up to complete an objective of their own, then coming to their aid and help bail them out after completing the primary mission.

The flare gun is actually pretty handy for starting a mess from distance since it's your only semi-long range weapon with direct fire damage, unless you count shooting at canisters and yellow barrels.

The FC2 Realmod makes you carry one on you all the time without occypying a slot. You basically switch between the flare and the machete by pressing 1. Very handy.

Many things demand explanation in this game.

-How do the checkpoints respawn?
-Why does everyone shoot on sight?
-Why do they let you back into the ceasefire zone if you just caused mayhem there 5 minutes ago and escaped only to go back in?
-Why are all vehicles unlocked and have keys in them so anyone can take them?
-Why do the faction leaders not check your profile before trusting you? And why still give you missions knowing that you're a double agent?
-Why did the Jackal spare you?

Suspension of disbelief is your best friend in this game. It really wants you to get immersed in its world, but you have to just let a lot of things go to do so. It's worth it though.

You think?
I have the impression that they do nothing but hang around in the bar and ask you to run their errands just because you're their buddy.

Nothing "demands explaination"...it's a game. Long-winded, wanna-be pro answers also do nothing.

Nobody ever "demands" explanations. Rather, among gaming forums, putting forth speculations regarding game elements has long been a gaming forum staple. It is one of the things for which forums are intended, to promote speculation, explanation, solutions, opinions and discussion. You, on the other hand, offered nothing--constructive that is.
