Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2 run on windows 11?
Hi. I bought the game on summer sale 2022 but I can't run it on my Windows 11. And it shows me a window before starting the game where it says:
"Please update your operating system. Game developers recommend installing the first set of updates (Service Pack 1)"
After I press OK, the game starts, the black screen hangs for 10 seconds and the game crashes.
I tried to fix compatibility issues. Neither option helped.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the continued reports and discussions about running Far Cry 2 on Windows 11.

Our own testing has shown that it is stable, besides some wonky audio with ambient sounds, but everybody's system is different so it is entirely possible that some combinations of Windows 11, specific systems and components, and background processes might be causing issues.

Please make sure to do our troubleshooting guide[ubi.li]. In particular from the guide, please make sure you are running the game with administrator rights, you've verified the game files, you've got your graphics drivers and Windows install fully updated, and you don't have any background programs which could interfere with the game.

If that doesn't work, go check our compatibility mode guide[ubi.li] as well. We'd recommend setting it to Vista for Far Cry 2.

Lastly, if it still doesn't work, please check our system files support article[ubi.li]. The two files it describes can be used to diagnose issues, by checking the crash information Windows logs when one happens. Once you've got the two files prepared, please reach out to our teams directly to send them across. Please include a thorough description of the issue in your message to us, as well as a list of the troubleshooting steps you've tried from the links above :)

Open a support ticket with Ubisoft Support[ubi.li]
Send Ubisoft Support a private message on Facebook[ubi.li]
Send Ubisoft Support a direct message on Twitter[ubi.li]

Please let me know if I can clarify any of these steps!

That's weird, it runs perfectly fine on Windows 10, and 11 is basically the same useless bloatware but even worse so I can't see why it would cause any issues.

I have already tried a lot of launch methods, including reinstalling the game when I ran out of ideas. Really weird.
I stopped giving an error, but the result did not change. Black screen and crash

What are your specs? If you never tried running it on the same machine might be something to do with your hardware?

When you say "tried to fix compatibility issues", does that mean you ran it in compatibility mode for 7?

Do you own Far Cry 3?

If so, you could try that weird fix where you copy the systemdetection.dll file from the FC3 bin folder into FC2's, replacing the file that's there.

Idk if this would fix your specific issue, but it's definitely confirmed working for other launch issues.

I don't have Farcry 3 yet.
But thanks for the advice. Need to try.

Hello there Akarumei_Slava!

I'm sorry to hear that you've had trouble launching Far Cry 2. Thanks for taking the time to share your report with us (and thanks to Malty S Melromarc☆ & Hunter for helping out here too)!

I understand that you've already tried reinstalling the game and launching in compatibility mode - all great troubleshooting steps! I suggest that you also try the steps provided on this basic PC troubleshooting support article.[www.ubisoft.com] These steps help to tackle a number of common causes behind technical issues in-game, such as crashes on launch, and provide us with a great starting point should any additional investigation be needed.

In particular, please ensure that you've installed all updates available on your system.

If you're still having trouble launching Far Cry 2 after trying these steps, please don't hesitate to send us an update within this thread so we can look into this further.

Thanks,
- Ubisoft Support

Hi. I tried your solution with systemdetection.dll and it didn't work either.

Ah, bummer. That's a documented solution for many users.

My friend shared this file with me. Perhaps if I bought farcry3 and took the file from there, everything would work for me.
But there were no extra funds. Looking forward to the next discount.

That's a shame.. - I'm just sick of OS dominance !

I'm sadly going to have to bump this thread as well. Exact same issue as the OP. Even using the multifixer with the provided solutions above starts up black screen then instant crash to desktop.
