Far Cry 2

Maybe the ending is up for interpretation?
Something I've always thought is that maybe they wanted to leave the player's status unknown. Just like they did for Kenny in The Walking Dead, where we all thought he was dead but he turned up somehow surviving. Maybe they really just left it unknown whether the player survives or not.

I think the player dies in both endings (Battery and Briefcase endings)

Battery - player dies from igniting the dynamite and doesn't have time to run away. This is obvious.

Briefcase - it looks like the player survives but he doesn't. When the camera shows the reporter taking photos and the guy checking the diamonds in the briefcase you can hear the guncock sound and then a gunfire sound when the black and white picture is shown which represents the suicide of the player.

Nevertheless if the player didnt commit suicide, he would die from malaria anyway which was getting worse at the end of act 2 to all of act 3 to the point where the anti malaria pills weren't effective anymore. It even says in the journal that the player "feels like" he could die.

That's odd. In countless playthroughs attacks tapered off in severity and frequency,
and by the end of the game it was 40 minutes and more between attacks - down
from 20 at the start.

I have 146 hrs in my current game. If you save at the prison gate you can return
and have an unlimited supply of pills -> and they work just fine.

To delay the dynamite going off all he needed was a lit cigarette on the battery
pole with the cable resting on it.

- The whole ending premise is a bit weak, but I believe that lacking any climactic
'final battle' or story resolution they kept it 'noire' and went with the *surprise*.

- Pretty novel idea to kill off the player. - At least they waited until the end of the
game to do it. - <heh!> 8 )
Too bad the dynamite is immune to grenade launcher shots, bullets of varying size, molotovs,IEDs and anything else that could detonate it from a safe distance

I've tried to kill two birds with one stone by taking the briefcase and blowing up the dynamite, didn't work out

The very first time I played through I thought the Jackal was spouting nonsense
and took the battery figuring there must be a way to set off the explosives without
getting killed. - Was shocked that this was the ending they'd chosen after all that
I'd been through. - 'Damn! - Where's my blue ribbon, gold star and lolly pop ??

- After reloading and taking the diamonds instead I felt a little bit better - but
not much..

- Thanks for the feed - 8 )

I think the Jackal survives both ending, he's survived many wars before and is sneaky as anything

1.We can have working IED's for most of the game, Jackal might also have some, and thinking he doesn't have any other way than to die like we do with the dynamite is dumb.
Our character dying is just another loose end tied.

2.He gives the briefcase away and just disappears like he's done before

Well, I think that he'd had enough. Otherwise he would have just taken the diamonds
and disappeared.

Played FC2 when it first came out and going back through the whole franchise after playing 'Red Dead Redemption II". Was wanting to re-visit the open world. So, am at the end and remembering originally pursuing the solution of shooting the dynamite with a sniper rifle from a distance. Searched for this approach, but nothing.
Anyone aware of this? Done it?

Tried it with Redux which gives you greater jumping and climbing abilities, but no place
to get a bead on it and even if you could that wouldn't trigger it in this game.

Wait, has no one actually tried to use a ied to blow up the dynamite? I've heard of people trying to use the flare gun but I've never heard of anyone trying to use the ied on it.

The trigger isn't 'physical'. It only happens when you activate the hand icon.

Yeah I know. Just surprised no one tried using an ied.

Of course, LC - I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking, forgot who I was replying to. - I tried IED's.
Always carried them to deal with that cluster-F near the end.

Well before FC2 - the only way I earned a rep playtesting was to try everything I could
imagine and multiple times. - The only prob I ran into was that some designers weren't
willing to wait the hours required for thorough testing. Was sometimes accused of wasting
time: - 'What player's going to try that?' - 'Well, this player, for one. Isn't that the
whole point of testing??' At over 4K hrs in FC2 I've tested this game far more than all the
others combined. What fascinates me about FC2 is that because of the complexity and
freedoms allowed even after all this time I'm not convinced by any means that I've seen
it all or done it all yet, and at this rate I may never be sure..

I believe this will require more testing ! ; )

Thanks for your thoughts and contributions Lasercar - sorry for the oversight !

Third is right, of course. It's an interactive cutscene. You can't set it off with an IED.

Nobody mention about his malaria condition? When you look at his journal and read the malaria level 5 description "Shaking, sweating, fever, Convulsions are severe, Feel like i could die"

So, no matter what happens if he survive the explosion or not shooting himself after bribing the military. Your character will eventually drop dead from untreated malaria at the end.

My solution is to never finish the game ; )

While you can parkour/jump back up to the prison exit (despite the game saying otherwise) you can't exit the prison through the entrance for some reason - the only other option is to jump through the network of invisible barriers Ubisoft has placed throughout the border and then walk to the waterfall near the train bridge and then slide down to the side of it.

This is great news - Thanks Lasercar !8 )

I've tried it many times from the final airfield but I kept falling through holes in the
landscape or passing out from desert heat. From what location do you begin your
return to the main maps ?
