Far Cry 2

Playing on modern hardware/OS
Hello everyone.

I have finished Far Cry 2 years ago on one of my old PC´s, but never played it on my modern PC under Windows 10.
Are there any bugs, save file corruption issues that I should be aware of playing this game on modern hardware? Any recommended settings to play the game to avoid any potential bugs?

I would like to start playing the game with my mind at ease, any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Yes and yes.

Go to the guide page and find Fox Ahead's Multi-Fixer.

Download that and always launch FC2 with it. It will fix the bugs, unlock the DLC, and allow you to tweak your FOV.

Don't play FC2 without that program.

Thank you for your reply. I will check that guide and use the program in it.

Thanks for sharing your suggestions, Hunter and thirdkeeper!

There's some great troubleshooting steps found within this additional troubleshooting and tips article that have been shared by the community, Peter Matt. If you're running the game on Windows 10, we'd also recommend launching the game in compatibility mode.[support.ubisoft.com]

Please note that Ubisoft Support is unable to promote the use of 3rd party software as a workaround, as this can conflict with game files[support.ubisoft.com] and cause issues running the game. Players are welcome to try suggestions regarding 3rd party software, but you would be doing so at their own risk, and Ubisoft Support will be unable to assist regarding any issues that may result from using third-party software to modify game files in an unauthorised way.

Thanks!

Multi-Fixer is all you need, it´s safe and fixes all the issues.

Multi-fixer is great for quality of life improvements but Far Cry 2 runs on a modern system just as it did on older hardware and software. The bugs are still the same, but overall the game doesn't crash....mostly.

Oh I meant on old hardware and new hardware. Yeah I know Multi-fixer patches most of it.

You know, you guys wouldn't have to post that every time someone mentions the Multi-Fixer program if Ubi would just fix the game... :steammocking:

I have been reading on this subject, and it seems the game can have issues when it runs at over 60 FPS. I tend to try and play older games as they were intended, I dont really care if an older game has mods to look better for example, and Far Cry looked amazing for the time (it still does today if I´m honest). I think I might limit my monitor to 60Hz, and use V-Sync to cap the frame rate, run it with compatibilty mode and manually save my game and hope I won´t have issues. If it starts crashing on me, I will use the multi fixer, it seems to solve basically every issue and bug I might encounter.

No need to go to those lengths, just put Vsync on and it'll run fine. It's gonna crash randomly with or without multifixer regardless, though thankfully it's pretty rare for the game to crash.

I am on win 10 and recent hardware, FC2 never crashed once in countless hours, I even play it also on a laptop with just IGPU from time to time, no crashes and runs incredibly well considering it´s not even a proper gaming GPU.
I know maybe I am just lucky but ...
I just play it in DX9 plus multi fixer with limited FPS at 58.
DX10 has bugs and doesn´t look any better, for example running DX10 I couldn´t hear the phone calls most of the time for some weird reasons but in DX9 no problems.
maybe DX10 is also more prone to crashes...
multi fixer also let you change FOV and other nice things.

I'm also on Win 10, recent hardware, and I get like one crash every playthrough, completely randomly, usually when switching weapons or performing an action. I also run it on DX9 and Vsync on. And while Multifixer is pretty good, I don't like launching games from other programs so instead I just took implemented most of the fixes from the program into my own mod directly.

your own mod?
maybe that´s why it´s crashing that often then.. just saying.
I play vanilla just with multi fixer because I used mods in the past but I felt I always ended up screwing the late game or with nasty missions bugs that I had to restart the game from scratch so my current playthrough is vanilla because I want to finish it properly again after so many years lol
