Not Launching: Losing Hope
I've recently purchased this game in a sale and realised real quick that it doesn't want to launch. I get a splash screen, then a black screen, and then I'm back at my home screen. I've tried a few solutions found in other threads and forums but nothing seems to work. So I've decided to make my own post to see if anyone has any new ideas as to what might work.

My specs are:
-Intel Core i5-8400+
-AMD RX550 FH 2GB G5
-8GB of RAM
-Windows 10 (64 bit)

The "solutions" that I've tried are as follows:
-Switching between DX9 and DX10
-Making sure that the game is installed in the (C:) drive
-Launching the application via .exe instead of from the launcher

And maybe some others that I can't remember. Point is, I think God is trying to stop me from playing this game that I have fond memories of. I'm begging for any help, thank you.

go to the fc2 install directory. go to the installers directory and run/reinstall all of them(direct x etc)

Have you tried disabling desktop composition?
1. Locate FarCry2.exe right click and select properties. 2. Compatibility tab 3. Check "disable desktop composition"

I couldn't find that particular option in the tab but i did mess around with the settings, and running it in compatibility mode for windows 98 seems to have done the trick, but now I'm left with another problem: no matter how low I set the display settings, my frames take a dive when I get past the intro cutscenes and into the actual gameplay.

I tried this but it didn't change anything. Thank you for answering though.

That means you're not under windows 7 as i assumed you were.
Have you checked this thread ?

I did check out that thread but they're solution didn't work for me because my problem isn't that I'm viewing a black screen, but that it isn't launching. I'm also using Windows 10. Now the game is working for me because of what I did before, but the only problem is that my framerate is very low no matter how low I put the display settings.

It's understandable that you're having issues now since the game needs at least windows xp.
Given that the vast majority of gamers have no such issues i assume that it's something wrong with your configuration. First thing i would try is a fresh install of windows.

At this point I assume I'm just doing something wrong. Is there a something you think I did wrong to try and fix the game that I can do correctly before I reinstall windows?

Try reinstalling the required software

Navigate to this folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 2\installers
there are a total of four executable in three directories
\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe \DotNetRedist\dotnetfx.exe \DotNetRedist\NetFx64.exe \VCRedist\vcredist_x86.exe

I've tried this a few times but something that happens is when I try to install both dotnet installers, I accept that they want permission to make changes to my computer, but then they do nothing, like nothing else pops up letting me know that they've been installed.

That's normal, those net versions do not notify anything after installation.

You can check the registry key for net framework 2.0 here
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v2.0.50727
If you click on it, on the right pane you should see an Install value of (1)
Also check that you have Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable in Add/Remove Programs.

1. Where do I input all that?
2. Where do I find Add/Remove Programs?
