Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2

Uninstalling makes the game run?
[WINDOWS 10 btw]

So I wanted to play some FC2 today and once the game was done installing, I pressed the play button, and clicked the first option to launch the game. However, the game didn't launch at all. Steam wasn't showing up as a game running in the background, no tasks in task manager, nothing.

So I then figured to reinstall the game, but once I clicked the uninstall button it prompted me with the FC2 splash screen and FC2 was running. The game functioned perfectly. I exited the game and Far Cry 2 was uninstalled.

Has this occurred to anyone else? Whenever I uninstall the game or verify game cache, that's when the game decides to run rather than running when I actually click play.

1. Verify Integrity of game cache. Look up how to do that if interested.
2. Launch the game directly from the exe in the installation folder, or create a desktop shortcut to the game's exe.

After I launched Far Cry 2 from the exe in the installation folder, from then on, I was able to launch Far Cry 2 from Steam.

Same thing here, nothing happens until i verify game files and then it runs, it was working fine a couple of months ago, maybe windows 10 creators update mess things up.:steamsad:

Yep it's quite odd. I remember I was able to run this on my laptop, while still having windows 10. I started to run it after the creators update so it may be that (on this PC). Would like to know more though.

It's not exclusively Win 10. Does exactly the same for me on Win 7 64bit. Wonder if the 64 bit is the problem?? I didn't have this hassle years ago when I used 32 bit....

I have the same issue. Won't launch when I click play, but it will launch after clicking "Verify File Cache."
Win7 x64

Game runs fine if directly clicking the executable in the game folder (Far Cry 2 > bin).

Same here, has anyone found a fix?

Edit: So I've been trying for a few hours to get it to work, finally found a fix for me. Go into your running programs and close any programs that are capable of screen recording. For me it was NVIDIA geforce experience. After closing the program, game started up!

Good to know, though I always have some capture software on for other reasons, so that's not happening :(

One thing that did work for me is right-clicking the game title in the list and choosing "play game" (instead of clicking "play" in Detail view). Started right up.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Just right click it in your library and press play game rather than the normal way.
