Hotfix for patch 1.0.2 available on save-data-hotfix beta branch

Hello all,

If the last patch caused your game to become glitchy/unplayable, there is now a hotfix available on the save-data-hotfix beta branch.

Here's how to switch onto the beta branch if you aren't sure how to do this:

This should enable you to preserve your save file, though there may be some slight weirdness such as the amount of frass you have being incorrect.

If you are still experiencing playability issues after the hotfix, you can restart your game in the settings menu or reach out to us at admin@bugaboopocket.com so we can assist you further.

If you haven't experienced problems with patch 1.0.2, we recommend that you continue to play on the main game branch, since we will continue to test and validate this fix for the rest of the week. We just wanted to make this change available ASAP for players who are waiting for it.

Sorry again for this issue! But we are hopeful this change brings a lot more stability to our game and makes it much easier for us to continue to update our game with patches and content.

Reported save file issue with patch 1.0.2

We have been getting some reports that our most recent patch is causing some previous save files to be corrupted, particularly if you were raising a mantis before the update.

We are working hard on a fix, which will hopefully allow these players to preserve their save data.

Unfortunately we cannot roll back this patch because this may cause even further save file corruption issues. So if your game was in progress before the patch, particularly if you are raising a mantis, you may want to hold off on playing and updating the game.

You can prevent an automatic update by changing Bugaboo Pocket's preferences on Steam:

If you have updated your game and are having issues loading the game, we are working hard to fix it and will make an announcement next week when a new patch is ready to be tested on our beta branch.

Hello everybuggy!

Our second patch contains even more bug fixes and improvements based on feedback!

Game improvements

Allow more pets before bugs become overstimulated.
Increase rate of Magician card (which makes bugs become shiny) once game is beaten.

Bug fixes

Make letter 7 fully readable in computer view.
Show food frass value even if food is free from Justice tarot card.
Make sure music plays in tree level.
Prevent final cutscene from playing multiple times.
Make sure bug name is correct for Hierophant card when bug is small.
Remove wishlist button.
Allow moth to be photographed when flying.
Correct a few bug facts.

Outstanding issues

Save file corruption issues due to antivirus software

After this patch I will be working on a way to save the game using a cache and creating backup saves that will hopefully prevent this from happening in the future.
This can either cause your game to not load properly or for the bug to be missing from the terrarium.
In the meantime, we now have a document that outlines how to exclude our save file from being scanned by Windows Defender[docs.google.com].
If you don't use Windows Defender, please reach out to us at admin@bugaboopocket.com for assistance.

Bug reverting back to egg

I still cannot reproduce this behavior unfortunately.
To help me debug this problem, I would love it if you could fill out this bug report[forms.gle] form that addresses this issue specifically.

Photos not loading in Garden/Specimen view

I also cannot reproduce this on my end.

New bug friend + furniture release

We are in the process of adding new content and it will probably be available later this month! But we want to make sure that the patch(es) for save files are released first to ensure stability.

I really wanted to love this but it's kind of boring, expensive and very confusing to play. There is no sort of tutorial or guide that tells you how to care for your critters. Having previously played a few idle games this one felt like there really wasn't anything to do and it's only supposed to be semi idle, very disappointed :((

Cannot get studious

I've gone through 2 mantises so far and neither has gotten even close to studious. Have failed every minigame and just drop food in its enclosure with no chase in the air.

This game is cute but doesn't feel like a fully-released game. I love the mini games and the story is enjoyable. But while the first few bugs are animated adorably, every bug past the beetle using this "tweening" method that looks unbearably cheap and sticks out like a sore thumb. This game also has a little too much waiting going on, a more windowed version that's just the little consle that you could have overlayed you screen while youre doing whatever else would be a great improvment. This game is also a little buggy but with it being such a recent release and how minor the bugs are, its excusable.

Overall. I like this game, but it would've done better as it being an early-acess game and not a full release

In terms of active playing, you'll ACTIVELY play this game for only about 3-4 hours before you reach the end. That time is spent mostly playing the same 15-second mini-games over and over ad nauseam. There are only about 15 of these mini-games. These games are overly easy and yet tedious.

However, 3-4 hours is this game's ACTIVE playtime. The game will take longer because its primary mechanic is WAITING. You have to sit in front of your computer, waiting for your bug to poop, or evolve, or die. In fact, you don't really get the full benefits of the bug until it dies, so you just have to sit there and wait for your bug to die.

I should be the target demographic of this game. I love indie games like this. And I love bugs! I've raised butterflies and rescued two ladybugs across two winters (each of whom I took care of for a span of several months). So why doesn't this game make me feel anything?

This game is not worth $20. I feel scammed and I don't want other people to feel this way.

As a trans person myself it's nice to see that part of our lives reflected in Silvia's memories like anything else would be. There's nothing to suggest this, but I thought to ask if Ez is also trans! Are they trans bug pals? BUG BESTIES?
