Lab Progression
I have no clue how to get anything to happen in the lab after being there on two playthroughs, I feel like I'm going crazy. I open the available treasure chests, free Lucy, and agonize over the obvious progress gates that I don't know how to interact with, please tell me what the first step is.

I don't know if anyone noticed this before, but there's a skeleton on the right of that gate where you get the Katana whose eyes light up, and if you interract with it, it puts you into some prism.

I think the lab is just there to give you the katana/free lucy and not much else to be honest

I genuinely have NO idea what the purpose of the skeleton is. I tried going back to it later on, but nothing was different.

The game is full of things like this, things that feel like they have some kind of secret purpose but just, don't. The lab as a whole confuses me since it feels like there should be something THERE, but other than some rather weak fodder battles there just...isn't?

The lab has some boxes and the swirly fleshy monitor near Lucy can be entered, it will slow you down but just press on. Do the strangely controlled easy puzzle and get weapon.

The prism's purpose is... to show how Sam got trapped later. That's that.

That would be such a letdown but after finishing the game, I'm inclined to believe that there's really nothing to it...

Although I find it strange that the eyes of the skeleton light up in peculiar patterns. Maybe there's something with it, or I'm just coping way too hard
Other things in the lab that look like something but are nothing: the door that leads to a room with something that looks like a table and there's no interactions there and no reason to go there story wise, not used for anything. Also a locked door right next to a save point which feels like a secret boss location or something

That's where you come from if you die to the Dragon. It's the actual starting point, coming from Irvine's pocket dimension is totally optional. It's also why the paper next to the door says there's equipment to defeat the Dragon there.

Aha, so it IS possible for the lab to be your first interaction with Lucy, I wonder if there's unique dialogue for that.
