Maybe they should work with setting up the story and characters and story a bit better. but I guess that does not matter that much maybe.
torchlight games' lore were often ignored by its players anyway. its the gameplay they only cared.
and actually, i like how they treat the remastered lore more seriously in this game by including some codex feature that compiles various lore in the game world. the characters' personalities and interactions are also more engaging in general.
meh im not even following the story and the main gist im getting is that each area has their own small villain plots which you can follow or not, like the church guy trying to ascend to godhood through horrid mutation experimentation.

Runic made some terrible business decisions and lost the IP to a Chinese company years ago.
