I wasn't happy about this either but given the reason, it unfortunately makes sense to use some other login to keep track of the account.

Pretty sure we needed a 3rd party account to play Torchlight 2 as well. I don't see how this is an issue in the case where I am right about T2. I do remember something like that.

Ye they were lazy to make it like this just so you can cross platform on your phone. What they should have done is make it steam authentication default and if you want to play on your phone as well you should connect it in settings

Well, most of the games I know that work on both PC and mobile allow me to create an account using my email. Oh well.

I'll pass then. Was hoping there was a button hidden somewhere that'd let me bypass that Google/Apple/notsurewhattheyare login.

Not an issue with an "external" account, in T2 you just tie it to your email. I'd be fine with that.

It's not really a problem of me not knowing how to do that, it's a problem of me not wanting to. I refuse to link anything directly to my google account.

Hehehe, probably not, I'd bet that you just get redirected to account.google.com to login to link those. But, they do get access to some of the data on your (google) account.

Interesting; for me what's shocking is how people just give up all their data for a little bit of convenience or some enjoyment. Addiationally, given this game's predecessor, I would not assume "hundreds of hours" of entertainment tbh.

You have a steam, has had data breeches multiple times, i guess you have a phone? guess what. Google? youtube? facebook. Your information has already been sold to hell and back and anyone on the internet who says otherwise are delusional.

game also has its own client outside of steam which requires you to sign up so its the same for steam your just connecting to that

just get good antivirus and don't involve yourself near shady stuff. these days when you connect to internet you're also basically exposing some of your personal data globally anyway.
