I mean, they could replace everything with bad 3DCG or something. That'd be funny, but bad.
That would also be a point. The dismissed illustrator was suddenly fired at 11 p.m. without any proper process. Who would want to work in such conditions? It would probably be very hard to find a suitable replacement, which means we might have to prepare for worse artworks.
I actually liked the author's pictures even though their quality wasn't as good as Identity pictures. Made them look unique. Also the pure amount of them was commendable and explains the lower quality.
Most of you all don't even have a single clue how many additions and changes of staff they had in the past. C.Y.P.P. (Cease Your Paranoid Panic)
Ignoring controversy and whether it is deserved or not and strictly speaking of changing one person in a team. She did not draw all splash arts and they have access to other artists which do similar style. Not the same, but honestly if game had story CGs like in Library of Ruina then it's still gonna be fine.
Maybe if she was some bigshot artist with very unique style that is tied to the core of the series, then yeah. Like Himukai is very much tied to the Etrian Odyssey. Or where artist in some games get lead roles and lots of creative freedom (like fire emblem games). With all the respect to her craft, she wasn't on that level or position.
For newcomers, the art change might not matter as much if they're completely replacing all relevant artwork. Considering what those would include, I rather doubt that'll happen though, especially considering the amount of work that would mean.
Not to mention the sour impression the company has left on the community in regards to artists with what they did, they'll have a harder time finding a replacement that'll be willing to work with them and won't cause another controversy over any drastic change in art direction.
