Which game had almost the same bloated filesize, because NRS abuses an old engine with 0 compression?... Oh yeah, it's MK11.
Meanwhile Street Fighter 6 is 60, even the latest CoD is 120.
Also, friendly reminder that the engine is 17 years old now, and Epic Games has long since discontinued tech support for developers using it. Because of its age and the fact that it's now unsupported, it should be worth mentioning that MK1 would need to play around UE3's content ceiling. What happens if you ignore said ceiling? Just look at Killing Floor 2 to find out! it runs like absolute garbage, and you need to mess around with .ini configs to get any amount of playable performance
I'm more curious as to whether or not Netherrealm will take engine limitations into consideration when developing the base game while also making sure there's enough room for DLC without breaking things.
Reason I'm saying this is because KF2 pushed Unreal Engine 3 to its absolute hard limits when it first released in 2016, and has since been bloated with 6 years worth of additional content. With the expectation that MK1 will be a next-gen Mortal Kombat game, it makes me wonder if Netherrealm will push UE3 as strenuously as Tripwire did 6 years ago.
It would be a trivial matter for UE5 to make MK1 look like what the trailer looks like. UE5 is ungodly.
"NetherRealm Studios technology" to me sounds like something bespoke/proprietary that they have cooked up.
Just go look at the system specs. It's Unreal 3 unless they confirm otherwise with in-game footage.
This. Pretty sure they need to keep up with the times. Using UE3 would be stupid. It looks more like this will be first MK in UE5.
UE3 was how Netherrealm was able to get all versions of MK11 (PS4/XB1, PC, Switch) to run at a smooth 60FPS.
Epic Games has also confirmed that Unreal Engine 5 will work on all platforms its predecessor Unreal Engine 4 also ran on, including Android, iOS, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

"Unlike UE4, however, the new iteration of the engine isn't a clean break from the past. It has the same system targets as UE4, meaning it'll run on anything from the most high-end PCs to old Android and iOS devices, encompassing current-gen consoles too - including Switch. "
