No guidance on how to finish story mode?

I've reached a point where I've completed both Area 3 zones, have all buildings, thousands of resources, but nobody in town is telling me what quest I need to do to progress the story. Matthew tells me "There's nothing left for us to unlock, but you haven't yet conquered the depths of the dungeon" but there doesn't seem to be a way to actually do it. Every run, including basic runs, end at area 3.

Has your father been kidnapped? That storyline led me to another door.

He's been kidnapped, but I've yet to see anything to do related to it.

from rumors I've heard is ya got to get all 5 characters & reach a certain level with them >.> but I'm still working on it. (hate tote with a bloody passion)

You have to get all 5 of them to one of the final zones (magma or frozen), they don't have to beat the area though, thankfully. Getting there with Tote was hard enough.

Do you have to do it on a specific setting/challenge? I've gotten all five there and all have beaten it (Tote melted my brain but I got there thanks to the axe that uses gold instead of stamina), but still I'm not given any further info about the beacon.

That axe was the only reason I got there too!
I think after building the beacon and talking to the research lady (the one that asked you to build it) you just have to beat the 9th floor in magma as purse. Your dad should be there, and then there should be a door after you find him

ya build the beacon (same gall who builds the robit, gives you the reciepe) You build & place it, than she tells you about the on the bottom floor (9).

Any valid challenge/run that hits the 3rd area (which excludes some quests that end on areas 1 or 2)

I'm having a bit of a issue with cr-8 just playing her >..> I must be to tired to to be thinking correctly. (though, you can kill youself with the bloody piston, if ya push the core off the backpack >.> .. )

I got her down there with the easy quest.

They have to say they are ready to go deeper.. (there will be a small cutscene the first time for ya, and the science lady will give you names of those who are ready (if for some reason you don't know.)

LOL same with the mushroom axe. What a blessing. I still haven't figured out how to get Pochette, so I'm probably even more stuck than the others. :(

search for question marks and beat her up in a zone 1,2,3 in that order. can be different runs

Building the beacon is the part I'm stuck on. The one who gives the quest just keeps telling me to build the beacon, but not actually how to build it. It doesn't appear to just be a recipe I have and am not making.

Same, I've seen the head like 12 times, the body once, the feet not at all

The beacon is a building under decorations.

I saw the head multiple times a run. The body appeared once and I snagged it as it was the last piece I needed after a dozen or so runs.

I also had issue with CR-8 until I saw a guide showing wands, manastones, etc. The real lesson was to get 2 reverse nodes so you create a loop. Mine ended with a heat switch that would swap and let the energy go to the sword, but by the end that never happened on normal battles. I had these tubes that overheat(3) and do 9 aoe damage. Ended up with like 10 of them and a machete and damage boosters. Armor came from boots and hats(50ish per turn).

I only got the 5-character door done when each character completed a standard or easy mode run.

It also just shows up in that menu after she tells you to build it. There's no actual "recipe" for it.
