It's not really worth building a bunch of decorations to get the research discounts, though. The discounts aren't much, and the decorations are very expensive, especially when you place multiples of them. Doesn't balance out at all, you'll end up spending way more materials on the decorations than you will just paying full price for all research items.
I'm not sure about the residential decorations, though. I have a bunch around my houses but I don't think they do anything.
Having said that, I am weirdly enjoying the "grind" required to keep putting down these decorations, though. Like a single tree costs me a few thousand materials at this point... lol, I am a sucker for this game. Currently putting trees around my entire farm field and it's becoming a real end-game project, haha
