please help. fight chapter one , hatters domain

ive never played a game like this and im not very techy to understand how to fix it, in the bigger fight (im not sure whether to call it a boss fight) with the big three headed monster thing that you have to reflect its attacks back with the umbrella (only know bc i had to yt it after several long attempts) i was having issue with the umbrella so i reset my keyboard like someone in here suggested and now i cant stay in focus mode unless im holding caps lock the entire time when before i just pressed it to go in and out. also when i start using the pepper grinder i cant switch back to the melee no matter how many times i press r or left click. please help me, i know its a lot but i really want to continue and its all becoming discouraging

I had this same problem, i waited for a bit (after i died multiple times) and then it just finally started showing up when I'd press E

That the Umbrella won't open is a common error in this game. There is no real solution for that problem (at least i don't know one). Normally I wait for a bit until it works again or restart the game.
The game is old and there are lots of little errors for example Alices dress or hair is doing weird things or you have to change the angle to walk into a key hole because she won't walk in.
Please be patient with the game. Even though it has many bugs, it is a great game that has a special place in my heart.
