Once these two steps are done, then try running as Administrator. if that doesn't work, you can try this:
Try verifying your game files cache. Go to Library in Steam. Right-click "Alice: The Madness Returns". Click "Properties". Go to "Local Files" tab. Look for the "Verify Files" button at the bottom of the list on that tab. Click it, and let it run. It may take up to 5 minutes to finish. Once done, exit Steam completely by closing your browser, then right-clicking the icon in your toolbar and clicking "Exit". Restart Steam and see if that helps.
If that doesn't work, try a clean install of a new videocard driver by completely removing your existing driver and installing a new one direct from your videocard Manufacturer's website while in Safe Mode for Windows.
The next step after that would be to hand-dete the Alice: Madness Returns files in the SteamApps folder, and use a third-party uninstaller like IoBit's Uninstaller or similar to completely clean out any files dealing with the game and do a fresh install. Then try running as Administrator.
Without knowing your computer specs, or the reason for the "unexpected overheat" I can't suggest any possible hardware troubleshooting.
Change the entry in the BaseEngine.ini to fullscreen=False.
You can find it in the ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Alice Madness Returns\Engine\Config
directory
In window mode it runs for me. But regarding the resolution I either miss a bit on the right or the bottom.
The game seems to have problems especially with 16:10 Monitors.
Which aspect ration does your monitos have?
Does your game start if you set it on windowed?
Does anyone have a solution to run the game fullscreen?
The game now worked for me.
