Umbrella glitch?

I feel pretty stupid right now.... The game says to block with the umbrella, you focus and use shift. That isn't working for me - even locked on to the enemy, I cannot do anything to block the first mini-boss, and I am stuck there. Is this a known issue? I saw a thread that had a link to an EA website, but it no longer works.... So I have no idea what to do to resolve this or how to fix this situation, and I am getting pretty pissed off.

If this is a known issue, why hasn't it been patched or fixed yet? I would really like to continue the game, so any help would be greatly appreciated.....

i used a controller and worked fine , for keyboard you have to go into the .ini file ,hope this help

...Oooh, but now it seems my vorpal blade won't work if I use the pepper grinder afterwards.... o.o; so many problems!

Yeah they have really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up with that part of the game. I have been using a controller and it doesn't tell you what button to press.

^ If you play on keyboard, they give you the buttons for the controller... Its so messed. If they were going to make a full profit, you'd think they would put all their effort and work into... Oh wait... buts its EA... That's riiiight...

I don't understand what you're talking about. I'm using keyboard and mouse and everything is working fine. Wasn't umbrella set to E by default?

^ It told me to press E while I was locked on to my target, and no, it did not work. It would not function at all. Also, if I ever hit T to target to use my peppergrinder, I couldn't go back to using my melee weapon. All of my code had to be fixed by going into the game file and fixing it. I'm so glad you're game works, that's great! But most of us have a really hard time with it - luckily that video I posted above helped 10000% and I never had any issues afterward.

doesnt work for me what he sais in the video. looks like im stuck there now. found some youtube videos how others use the bombs to weaken the ruins shield. will try the other option later on.
i got it from origin since it is 70% off.

Well, I hope you find a solution - that video worked like a charm for me. Make sure you're targeting the monster before you try to use your umbrella - or it won't work at all....and how do you have bombs without the tea pot? You can't use it there unless you have a New Game+ - so that suggestion won't work at all unless you've somehow broken the game.

The long and short is that you need to delete all repeated entries of the same button vs. command within the appropciate .ini file (I recommend using notepad/control-f). (The game, rather than appropriately overwriting, creates new redundant entries every time one attempts to modify controls within the game itself.) It's a pain, but it doesn't take too long. MAKE A COPY OF THE FILE FIRST. :)

(Why EA couldn't/can't fix this problem is unknown.) (It's probably been stated, but using a 360 controller immediately solves all button-mapping issues.) (Frankly, this is one of the very few games that is superior with a controller vs. mouse/gamepad/keyboard, regardless.)
