^ Thanks to this awesome guy, too - the tutorial above is step by step and is SUPER helpful.
i got it from origin since it is 70% off.
The long and short is that you need to delete all repeated entries of the same button vs. command within the appropciate .ini file (I recommend using notepad/control-f). (The game, rather than appropriately overwriting, creates new redundant entries every time one attempts to modify controls within the game itself.) It's a pain, but it doesn't take too long. MAKE A COPY OF THE FILE FIRST. :)
(Why EA couldn't/can't fix this problem is unknown.) (It's probably been stated, but using a 360 controller immediately solves all button-mapping issues.) (Frankly, this is one of the very few games that is superior with a controller vs. mouse/gamepad/keyboard, regardless.)
