Although, if she liked the visuals and good story telling, she might enjoy "Enslaved: Odyssey to the West." It's a light platformer with some similar combat. Visually, it's pretty unique. But the story is where it's all at. Very cinematic and enjoyable all the way. I'd check it out. :)
And... if you guys happen to have a PS3, I'd recomend checking out "Valkyria Chronicles" and "Shadows of the Damned."
"Valkyria Chronicles" is more of an RPG/TBS/TPS. It's got alot of anime flavour to it, with a fun story overall. It's a very brightly coloured, and light-hearted game imo. The combat system is interesting enough too, and can lead to some fun situations.
As for "Shadows of the Damned," it's a full-on TPS, very similar to "Dead Space 2" (worth checking out too imo. (check "Dead Space" before though.)) The visuals/art direction are quite similar to Alice; it's defintely dark with lots of gore. It's got more humor than expected... with a whole lot of demon killing.
Especially with the dark, psychological atmosphere, the "detective mode" that's similar to the "shrunk vision", the Riddler trophies are similar to the Memories, and then you have the unlockable art, character bios and levels designed like chapters...
Haha! Happened something similar...
Me: looking through the sales page on Steam...
Girlfriend: (out of nowhere) "oh... that's an Alice in Wonderland game, right?"
Me: "yep and it's on sale"
Girlfriend: plays until 5:00am her first game on steam...
Me: drooling in the couch next to her, completely asleep...
So now that I have a gamer girl I started looking for some games...
Child of Light - An RPG that I think has co-op, amazing art style...
Tomb Raider and the Guardian of Light - Against all odds my GF loved playing it, grat co-op...
Guacamelee - Another Co-op game with a mexican/Mark of the Ninja art style...
Alice - the first game, had the cd completely buried from my teenage years... you can play it on consoles or doing a not so legal download to play through the second game.
Gone home - New type of game, like an old "Lucas Arts" graphic adventure, but made by hipsters for hipters...
Stanley Parable... Same as above
Limbo
Trine
Braid - All side scrollers...
And almost all Lego games but I find them too childish...
Hope it helped, cheers!

Is about red riding hood
That game is bonkers! It is a similarly very stylishly artsy character action game in vain with Alice, even more nuts. I haven't played it myself as it has been console only thus far, but am looking forward to its PC release which is slated for early May.

Also, The Path - very dark girly game and Don't Srarve - mystic horror world for exploration. And Grimm - "turn happy fairy tale into nightmare"
Nice...
