Game won't launch
So, I've been playing this game fine up until a couple days ago. I had a Windows 7 system. Then we upgraded to Windows 10. Tried the game, worked just fine.

A few days later, I try to launch the game again, and I get an EA window popping up to activate the game. Weird. It was already activated, but whatever. Put in the CD key. Window goes away, and now just won't launch at all.

Really upset because I just got to the Queen of Hearts domain. :(

Please, does anyone have any idea what to do?

Here's what I've already tried:

Backed up source files, uninstalled, reinstalled.

Uninstalled, redownloaded, reinstalled.

Neither of those solutions worked.

Any help or suggestions would be apprecaited.

Thanks!

I have no clue about what happened, but try running the game in windows 7 compatibility mode... maybe it'll magically start working.

I have it fixed
what I did was
rigth mouse button on alice maddnes returnes in your steam library
then go to propertys
click on the tab Local Files
and click on Verify Intigrety of game cache

after that wait till it's done and you can probably play the game

Sadly, none of these things have worked for me. Also, I have Windows 10, and I'm sensing there might be something there that's causing trouble. I think there was an update that rendered my game useless. Hoping there will be another update soon that fixes this issue. Until then, I guess I'm not playing this game. :( Super sad.

So, as an update to my plight, I thought I'd let you know: with this current issue, Steam still doesn't launch the game, but I downloaded it through Origin's launch program (again and overnight) and now the game works. It even saw my saved game. So I guess just play it through Origin now ( the bastards).

I have the exact same problem. Updated to Windows 10, now the game won't launch anymore. Already verified game cache - that's not it. It's actually a process called activation.exe giving the message to reinstall. So my guess it is a DRM problem.

The same problem here, but i use windows 8. i used my 2 only accounts and EA keep saying that my key of the game is already used. This is Robbery ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ EA. If we bought the game at steam why EA has to ♥♥♥♥ us. Seriusly EA stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ us and try to steal some money from kids with your new DLCs...

Jumping on this bandwagon: game worked fine when I was on Win8, now that I updated to Win10 it won't launch unless I provide a registration code (that I don't have -I think- since I bought it via Steam).

Going to try your suggestions!

edit: apparently I just had to log in using the EA account I connected or something when I started the game for the first time. After that, game launched.

Same here, after I upgraded to Windows 10, I went to run Alice and I get a box asking me to login to Origin, which I do and then another window pops up saying that EA can't verify the copy of Alice Madness Returns by the ea account and to enter a CD key. So I copied the key from Steam and pasted it into the box and the window states that the key has already been used on another computer (it has not) and to either enter another key or pay EA extortion money for another copy of what I already own.

I've tried verifying the files and uninstalling and reinstalling Alice and nothing has helped.

OK, I got it running. Copy the CD Key from Steam, and then go to EA's site and login with your credentials. Go to My Account (under your username's drop-down) and click on the Redeem Product Code and paste the CD Key into the box on the right. Click Next and the site will let you know what software you are redeeming. Click Next again and EA should tell you that you've added the software to your account.
Go back to Steam, start up Alice and then login with your EA Origin credentials and it should work after that.

It appears that quite a few titles in Steam do not launch in Windows 10 when they did in Win7. A third of my library does not launch, including this game. Bothersome since I don't want to purchase a game in Steam only to find that it fails to even launch, without so much as an error screen or dialog.

I know this is quite a few years old, but I am having issues getting this to launch. I played it the night before and had no issues, but now today I can't get the game to launch on Steam, or in Origin (I had copies on both). It launches and goes through all the startup stuff, but crashes before it ever gets to main menu. I have logged into EA's site and redeemed the product, I have tried the compatibility troubleshooting and can't get it to launch, uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing works and I don't get why it worked last night and not now. If anyone knows a fix, or where I should look that would be great.
