Alice: Madness Returns

Alice: Madness Returns

Any way to get just the original American McGee's Alice?
i grew up on the original. heck, first time i ever played it it was as a demo on a demo CD back in the day that game magazines used to give out with their issues. the story, style, music, clever Cheshire jokes (i love that cat), everything hit just right with me. still does. i still listen to the soundtrack to this day when the mood hits and remember all those levels and weird characters with their lisps.
when Madness Returns came out i was ecstatic to get back into that world so i borrowed it and tried playing it, but it never hit right like original did and after few hours i wanted to play less and less of it until i just stopped. never finished it.

i was disappointed Steam didn't have either game, still am disappointed it doesn't, because beside Epic that i use to collect free games and Ubisoft Connect i have to use to play Assassin's Creed, i only ever use Steam and not having Alice means not able to replay my childhood, especially since finding out Steam actually used to sell it. sure the game didn't age very well, but it's still one of my favourites.

so my question is could Alice be gifted without Madness Returns coming along for the ride? are the two games separate or fall under one installation?
if they are separate is there someone, anyone out there wanting to get rid of the original only, for whatever reason?

There is one way to do so legally. The "Complete Collection" version of Alice The Madness Returns included the original. It was not sold separately digitally as far as I can tell. I don't know why EA never sold it separately or put it on GoG.

So you might ask how can I get this complete edition? Surprisingly I got mine a little while ago from GameStop's digital store front, and its not the first time I've managed to get a delisted game from Gamestop. I even got the updated Riddick game from them a few years ago whenever the 3rd Riddick movie came out.

It redeems in origin however.

Alice 1 is only exclusive Xbox 360 version .

Alice 2 MR for Xbox 360 have Alice 1 Included from Extra content.

You could also get it on PS3, which had the DLC that was the first game for free. Not sure if you pay for it on XBox.

But OP wants the game on Steam, so a console version is unlikely to be acceptable.

oh wow, i just checked other topics and Alice: Madness Returns really made a return back to Steam. does anyone know if it's only the second game or does it come packed with the original?
also does the game still require EA Play?

Buying it now has the same requirements as all current EA games, I would imagine.

And for the first game, not a chance. You only get that digitally one way officially, the Complete Edition key for Origin. Humble sells it still. You could also add the files for the game to the original Steam version yourself though.

I got it on PS3 anyway since it was a free DLC, so that never bothered me. Got this copy as a Christmas gift nearly a decade ago now. :P

i like to have everything on PC and especially on Steam, to have it all in one place and not strewn across different platforms.
yeah, feels so good getting something you wanted for free.

I prefer consoles myself, especially for older games without gamepad support on PC. Got joint problems in my left hand in my 30s which makes keyboard controls difficult, and often painful. I agree one place is nice, but being able to play the game is even better. Can't even play most old FPS games on PC without god mode. Just can't move around enough to survive otherwise. :(

yeah, i guess it depends what kind of older games you prefer to play and if they're supported or not.
about your joint problem, however painful, at least you're still able to play games if they're what you love doing. small favours.

myabandonware.com. Not entirely sure you can get it to run on modern systems, but at least the game is available there.

Abandonware games are a bit legal grey area, though. Good thing about that site is, that they will immediately remove any game that are being sold again. For example; if gog.com begins to sell some old classic, myabandonware removes the ability to download said game from their site, They will still list it, but direct any downloads to places where you can purchase it.
