Xbox controller not working?

Why is the game not detecting my xbox 360 controller? I start the game, go to configuration, controls and switch from keyboard to controller. Then when I go back to the game the controller is not working at all...and when I go back to controls settings, it's set back to keyboard like what the hell? I would expect xbox 360 to work with this, as it does with 99% of other games.

Edit: It was apparently caused by another controller being plugged in the computer, I disconnected it and now it's detecting the xbox 360 just fine. I will leave the thread here in case someone has the same problem.
*also the game is locked to 30 fps, the way to change it is to go to documents/My Games/alice madness returns/alicegame/config, open aliceengine in notepad and change MaxSmoothedFrameRate to whatever framerate you want.
