It can also help you fix a few common technical issues on the PC ver, which EA just, Has never fixed ever.
To enable the DLC contents:
- Open DefaultEngine.ini (<path-to-your-steam-library>\steamapps\common\Alice Madness Returns\AliceGame\Config) or AliceEngine.ini (C:\Users\<username>\My Documents\My Games\Alice Madness Returns\AliceGame\Config) with a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++.
- Search for this section in the configuration file: [AliceGame.AliceGameEngine].
- Change value of the variable GIsSpecialPCEdition= from "FALSE" to "TRUE".
- Save the changes to the file.
- Run the game and you should now see a new "Equip" button in the main menu for the DLC dresses and weapons.
To fix the DLC weapons in the Steam version (post-January 2022 update):- Open DefaultInput.ini (<path-to-your-steam-library>\steamapps\common\Alice Madness Returns\AliceGame\Config) or AliceInput.ini (C:\Users\<username>\My Documents\My Games\Alice Madness Returns\AliceGame\Config) with a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++.
- Search for this section in the configuration file: [AliceGame.AliceGameEngine].
- Add the following lines underneath the line containing the variable bEnableMouseSmoothing=:
+Bindings=(Name="o",Command="EnableAllDLCWeapons")
+Bindings=(Name="p",Command="DisableAllDLCWeapons")
- Save the changes to the file.
- Run the game and get into gameplay, then press either the O key to enable the DLC weapons or P to disable them.
There was a better alternative to get this working as originally intended via the Equip menu, but it's all Greek to me...PCGamingWiki recommends this patch for the 2011 remaster that was included with Madness Returns. I tried it and it solved the crashing issue.
