This game is a work of art, visually and aurally, and if that isn't enough for you, then it's your prerogative.
Hope at least you guys finish the game, the story is well worth it, like I mentioned before.
It is not poor design, it's a design choice, which is different. Story wise and if you think about it, these dull and boring parts make sense, being trapped in this version of wonderland by none other than your doctor, making it hard for Alice to navigate the world and making it the way it is so she will get lost. I get it, it's not for everyone and a lot of players find it boring, but what the game has in it's good parts more than compensates for the boredom in my personal opinion.
The first Alice game is exactly like this one in it's design, but although that one is a classic, Madness Returns has a lot more variation to it.
