Two ways to set the Clockwork Bomb?

Whenever I use the Clockwork Bomb, Alice typically chucks it and the bomb lands a foot in front of her. This can be easily seen in footage of PewdiePie's playthrough of the game. This video however, presents a different method:

You can see that Alice stops to place it down. How do I use this second method?
