Which is better?
Animal or leather clothing? Does each work better on certain islands? Due to animals not respawning I am struggling to get animal tendons. This needs a hotfix.

Leather is better. It does everything hide clothing does and more (like protecting from heat on copper island), and it has higher durability and armor.

Make sure you check any wreckage that looks like cloth to see if it is salvageable, because you can often get tendon string back from them. There is a lot of things to salvage on the Santa Maria.

You mean *seaweed cloth* or leather? Seaweed cloth protects against sun (a problem on Copper Island) and leather protects against sun, wind (a problem on Windy Island) and provides armor.

If you can make it to Copper Island with what you have, the buffaloes there provide up to 3 tendons each.

Trouble is I have the respawn bug. Buffalos don't respawn, neither do Boars or Jackals. I have been to Copper Island many times and each have needed formatic acid.

Seaweed cloth doesn't really make sense as it is. It's not intuitively a progression on the tech tree between hide and leather. Also, its ingredients are too hard to find and should probably be available in the Bird region.

Very much this. Although then we might run the risk of making hide armor obsolete if it's easy to get seaweed cloth. But it needs some rebalancing for sure. Right now the only reason to make seaweed cloth is for the catamaran and the perk point (and that really feels bad to make a whole set of useless armor).

Actually it does, seaweed clothes are sort of cheaper to make since it require liana rope instead of tendon thread besides the seaweed cloth, also it has heat protection and 3 armor per piece, the hide armor feels a bit expensive right now because of the low protection and high need for hide and tendon thread, I would say that seaweed is better than hide clothes in many ways once you have found where to get the resources for it, to me it is a no brainer to use until you can craft leather clothes :)

Honestly to me the seaweed clothes are a waste of time. I always skip them. It's not hard to just make a nocturnal run and find shade amongst the rocks to nap through the heat on Copper Island to mine your first copper and skip straight to leather.

I've only ever gotten heat stroke once, in my first playthrough. I tried to map in the morning before I even knew heat stroke was a thing in game. Had to sail back to camp to make the formic acid, and that's the only time I've had to use formic acid in any playthrough. Going after the seaweed always comes later for me after I've finished mining all the nodes on Copper Island and I'm starting to run out of things to make.

You can indeed skip over the seaweed armor without many problems. I kind of want them to take away the heat protection from the leather+ armors.

That would make seaweed armor worth crafting.
