Ladder placement is awful
I am trying to connect a dock to my base. If I place 2 sloped ladders from my foundation to the ocean it puts the pier foundation just under the water and it won't place. If I place the pier foundation first and then try to place the 2 ladders, one of the ladders won't place. WHY can't they just snap into place even if the distance is shorter like every other building game that has ladders and stairs???

Now my only option would be to tear down my entire base and start with the pier foundation first and then work my way up. Not doing that. I've invested too much time into building my base.

And the vertical ladders suck. I tried placing one inside my base to the second level and when my character gets to the top of the ladder he just stutters in place at the top of the ladder and can't make the transition to the next floor.

If a game is going to have base building it needs better building mechanics. AND more pieces. The limited selection is not even 25% of what is offered in other building games.

Edit: I just noticed that I can place a short piece of a sloped ladder from a foundation into the beach sand. I cannot place a short piece of sloped ladder into the water. And if I try to place 2 ladders between 2 existing structures that aren't quite far enough apart, they don't place either.

Connecting a dock directly to your building is always going to be a challenge. The water piers are fixed elevation and always need to be placed first. Then hope everything you build from there fits where you intended or you will be tearing down moving and starting over. Get your basic floor plan placed first before doing any other construction. It can be a lot of trial and error, moving things around a little and trying again. I rebuilt my first main house three times and there are still some little things that didn't end up fitting in right.

It's a basic build set that works decently for a small game. As a builder I could go on for days about it's shortcomings, all the missing parts, but it's all they gave us to work with and trying to force it to your will just isn't always going to work.

There is always the option of just keeping the dock separate from your main building. That's usually what I've ended up doing because the build set just isn't very cooperative with buildings connected to docks.

So weird when people show up after a lengthy early access development process and demand changes.

Never even heard of the game until I bought it in May.

I had the same problem in my first game and when I started my second one after the last major update I ended up building only with foundation pierce in the inlet on Hope island. this way everything was connected without ladders.
Try building the ladder first to your building and then mark where it ends up on or close to the ground. Then dismantle it and build a pierce or platform there (if possible) and then the ladder again. It might not connect but will be as close as you will get it. Good Luck and Happy Game-play!!

The issue is that I need to connect 2 ladders together and the spacing isn't right to do so. For now, I have left my dock disconnected from my base. It isn't worth tearing down my whole base to rebuild. My base is pretty high off the ground. It starts at the entrance to the grotto and goes toward the ocean. It doesn't look like there is that much of a slope in this area, but there is.

I wanted to connect ladders to the deck in green and then place a few piers and then the dock.

Have you tried placing walls down, then connecting another foundation base at the base of the bottom wall and then connect another foundation base to the first one (so you have two foundations away from wall) and then connect a staircase to the outermost foundation and try another on top?. Hope this makes sense to you.

Towards the land side, not the water.
