Where to get flax?
I just went to the Puma region and now have iron. I see that I can craft iron armor but need linen armor first. I currently have the copper plated leather armor. Since linen is below leather armor it seems I should be able to craft linen armor before leather or copper. It looks like I have to go to the snake region to get flax? Is there any other way to get linen now?

Linen is actually the best armor because it protects from all weather types not because it has higher armor value vs. animals. But iron armor is the best for both weather protection and armor vs animals. So I usually used linen armor all the time as later it's easy to make a lot of it. And carry iron armor with me and only switch to it if I really need to use it which isnt often. Also if you are on Silver Island that's the region you will find the last recipe for Hunters Armor which gives you very high stealth vs. animals so great for sneaking and ambushing.

Well, I won't be going to the snake region anytime soon. I just started with the Puma region. Flax is an item that should be growing in the fields of Hope Island.

You can always grow flax before you get to the snake region. There is a bag of seeds on the iron island.

Fantastic. Thanks.

Found the bag of seeds. Now just waiting for them to grow. Hopefully when harvested, they give the occasional seed so I can plant more.

I just made the first 2 pieces of iron armor. Why do you wear linen armor instead of the iron armor? From what I see, the iron armor has 100% protection against all the elements and 16 armor rating. Too bad we can't see our character to see what it looks like when equipped.

Both have 100% protection against all weather types, iron only adds the 16 armor vs animals. I use linen most of the time because it's cheaper to make/repair and replace and most of the time you aren't fighting animals you are just going about your daily tasks. I carry iron armor and only swap out to using it when and if I really need it to save on wear. The only time I used it was on the boss fight on Bimini Island. I still have the first set I crafted and it's at 95% durability. For normal animals I just don't get hit much at all and even if they do get a hit in, it's barely a scratch. So why allow all the time/wear on iron armor? In medieval times knights didn't run around doing their chores in full plate armor they only put it on when it was time to fight.

I am wondering if the iron armor causes your energy to drain faster. Since I equipped the 2 pieces I have crafted, my energy seems to be draining faster. Then again I am running all over Iron Island. I don't see anything that says it drains energy faster. Mine says it won't break for 210 days. I only have about 150 days in the game so far. I probably won't even have to repair it for another month of real time. I guess if I get enough flax eventually, I will end up crafting another set of linen armor. Thanks for the info.

It's pretty crazy that you get iron armor before linen armor isn't it? But I will stand by my earlier comment I think overall linen armor is better for a number of reason other than just armor vs. animals. You should carry both.
