Can't get mods to load in game

I've been trying to mod the game to make it more fun to play with friends, but I can't get the mods to work. I've tried everything. Installing Thunderstore and installing bepinex, reverting to previous game version (40). Even manually installing the mods and putting them in the game folder. Everytime I try this, I open up the game and it just says the version on the bottom left like it normally does, it doesn't have the MOD underneath like it should.
I really have no idea what is going on and it is quite frustrating.

If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.

I think it only shows "MOD" if you activate force MOD browser. Thunderstore's mod manager should do the installing for you just make sure to launch modded instead of vanilla, have you tested in-game and not just the menu when you host?

How do you activate force mod browser? And no, haven't tested in game yet, I just assumed that if it doesn't show MOD it isn't working. Will check right now.

Okay, so mods do work, but idk why all the tutorials show that you need to see mod on the menu to verify if it works if it doesn't do that by default.

You can force the modded browser manually under the bepinex configs of LC_API. Or on the mod manager's EDIT Config tab also LC_API
