A potential fix for the Giants.
Standing still.

Might sound dumb, but it would be better if the giants sight were based on movement, if you stop moving it loses sight of you, this staying still is problematic still if dogs, the masked, hawks or free roaming bees are a thing, so it doesn't nerf giants completely, but it atleast gives the players a way to try and escape them.

If the giant sees you it stands still and looks in your direction, if you're still moving after 2 seconds, it moves towards you as it would normally, but if you stop moving and stay still, after 2 seconds the giant will lose sight of you and go back to its random walking pattern, allowing the player to try and get away - Also, this strat becomes more risky the closer the giant is to you, afterall, it takes several seconds for the giant to lose sight of you.

This will arguably fix the giants from seeing you from across the map, they will still see you of course, but you can atleast stand still to get its attention off you.

*Fixes the giants from camping exits, you can exit and not move incase a giant is outside the doorway or nearby, moving only when its back is turned.

*Fixes not being able to see the giants in foggy weather, you get the alert something has seen you but hey, you still don't know from where, you then stop moving and wait for the screen effect to go away.

*Fixes the issue of not being able to hide as there is often times nothing to hide behind in some situations.

This can also allow players to lure the giant away and they can then get away from the giant themselves.

New additional buyable suit:

Ghillie

Expensive to buy, but changes the time the giant sees you from 2 seconds to 3 seconds before it reacts, and reduces the time it takes for them to lose you by 1 second instead of it taking 2 seconds.

Makes no sense to give a Giant T-Rex vision. They have enormous eyes for a reason, they can see very well.

Giants seeing you across the map makes complete sense considering how tall they are and the size of their eyes. They can see over most hills and a very far distance clearly.

Generally you drop your stuff and outrun the Giant, or just hide behind a tree or light pole.

I think changing their focal distance/aggro-distance, especially on snowy planets Rend/Dine/Titan, or during foggy weather in general, would help. Forest Keepers may be tall with good eyes, but full sprinting at a small creature from across the map doesn't seem very true to their "curious" nature as stated in the bestiary, but rather "target acquired. kill on sight."
It might also help to add better cover such as thicker trees on March/Vow, or more boulders to Offense, despite the low Giant spawn rate there. It is currently rather difficult to break line of sight with a Giant, so adding even just a few more obstacles feels fair to the player and the enemy.
As for camping, I think they just need a tweak to their pathing and AI behavior. It makes more sense to hinder their ability to camp than to add a feature to counter camping. I don't feel like v47 helped much in that regard, as Giants still tend to hang around the ship in my experience.

Interesting take, though - I like the picture of Giants using pseudo-Nutcracker AI

Adding onto this, I find it funny the giants can target lock you during bad weather, especially snow. It's already incredibly hard to see on there as it is, it's amazing that they're clearly able to see you during a blizzard with all the snow blowing around. I'm sure some things will be tweaked as the game comes along, but I always was baffled about that lol

I need a threat to stay engaged, so I love giants the way they are. There however should be _some_ reduction in ability during very poor visibility conditions.

...this isn't a fix. it's just a nerf. giants have never been that hard to avoid, i seriously don't see the problem.

i get this yeah, giants have a habit on titan of being game over as they still camp the ship , despite V47, or camp the platform just infront of the ship and its stair, and given titans small size they will see you from anywhere and run an immediate fade.

maybe giving it a sight nerf from like 70-50 on snowy planets or foggy weather, and 40 if both conditions apply. standing still making them blind has the problem of it not being an opposite reaction to any other outdoor entities, masked excluded but at that point, just run.

march/vow doesnt need a change tbh plenty of trees, maybe less vow fire-exit camping, cus they glaze that lowered spot way too much with 0 cover.

Alike the bracken and head nibbler, singleplayer could do with a change in behaviour, as you have 0 teamates to bait it with, no way to keep it stunned and titan being the most viable solo moon.

Gameplay > "Realism" It makes sense cause it would make the game better.

it really doesnt though.

Reduce the giants "terror" special effect they inflict on the player as it makes dark maps even darker. I can't see anything when a giant spots me as it makes at certain maps the entire screen dark to the point I can't see anything anymore. Also, giants can see ridiculously far even on worlds with fog or weather effects. During spectator mode, you can often see better as at times the mist dissapears and I've seen giants noticing players at ridiculous distances.

Giants are just... annoying and a pain. Inconsistent behaviour and the effect they put on your screen is just... too much. There is already so much screen effects and stuff going on with base-game, if you add such screen stuff on top of it, its just... too much.

Making games easier for those who struggle with aspects of the game does not make the game better.

This game is supposed to be hard. I don't struggle with Giants. They are quite easy to avoid. I think the reasoning for this post being made is that the OP doesn't know how to avoid them, or is clearly walking around in big open areas and claims they are "too powerful".

People say stuff is broken or too hard in games all the time. Then when you actually watch what most people are doing, they generally are just running as fast as possible out in the open without even trying to hide or drop their stuff.

A lot of the games I have played in recently, people have had absolutely no idea how to play. Then later when they respawned they said something along the lines of "that's completely unfair", or "Giants are broken, you can't avoid them".

Giants are fine the way they are. Very easily avoidable to be honest.
RazakelKairo Jan 18, 2024 @ 3:22am
Giants are way more fine compared to pre-nerf. You can actually tell if they're looking at you now (although the fear-filter should be reduced a bit for the same reason Kasper mentioned), and tend to lose you more. You can effectively lead them somewhere and be perfectly fine nowadays.

I agree on the notion that foggy weather or Dine/Rend should impact their vision to a degree (mayhaps reduce the camping a bit more too, its definitely still there), but they're pretty fine otherwise. They are by design enemies that become dangerous when you're spotted, which should be the case. There's enough counterplay for that stage nowadays too.

(this is more of a reply to the rest of the comment chain rather than OP, as the idea can be pretty fun)

Post-nerf giants are very fun to play against, as long as they don't camp high-traffic spots such as entrances and the ship door (which they don't anymore) they're not that difficult to avoid.

Although It would be nice if they didn't devour the players loot along with them.
