Why the maneater has such fearsome name?

I found it once and despite being a bit of a burden, I managed to bring it to the top of the mineshaft. They didn't like the sun so I left them inside. Truly a shame, I wanted to bring it to the ship but I couldn't, too many gigants. So why it's called that? Is just a poor lost critter that craves some company.

yep the entire point is just to frighten you, like seeing a spore lizard and thinking it's a thumper

Yeah it’s really just a quick and easy jumpscare once you first see and scan them, and then from there it’s just a piece of scrap that sometimes moves when you put it down. Once it’s outside, it will start crying which doesn’t really do much but attract dogs, fortunately once you get it to your ship it will stop. But, it’s worth quite a lot so I think it’s worth the risk.
