Are Giants overpowered or is it just a skill issue
Every other monster in this game I feel like when I die to is in my control and could have been prevented, but Giants are just something I cant deal with. Its especially annoying when they sit on the ship, I dont believe they go off of noise so using a delivery package or boombox cant catch their attention. And the fact they see super long distances too makes camping ship even more annoying its extremely demotivating to watch all your items get lost forever just right at the exit of the mission. ive tried crouching behind trees too or using them to block its path but it dosent seem to help. The only thing I feel like I can do is just have a stun grenade at all times. Is this monster just overtuned or am I just not thinking other ways to counter it?

Generally you want cover and if you can't get cover stay crouched and freeze if it isn't directly facing you. If you do get spotted breaking line of sight for a significant time will cause the giant to search where it last saw you letting you escape if stealthy enough after. You can also run to safe spots or get teleported to safety(this can be used to bait enemies away from the ship).

If you want the exact information related to their behavior you can read it here.

it's a curious monster and works mostly off of sight and sound up close.
what works for me is getting its attention just on the edge of its LoS and then looping it around until I can get back inside

Giants also can't enter structures/the ship. On Vow you can kite him to the bridge that breaks and he'll fall into the valley there.

Otherwise best thing to do is just travel in groups and let someone get sacrificed to the giant, but make sure he drops his loot before doing so.

Is it better to run in a straight line or change directions a ton to throw it off? And do you usually do this with items in your hand or nothing? Whenever I get in their line of sight I usually get caught still

Yeah ive had alot of scenarios where the camera person has been stuck inside of the ship with a giant outside that wont leave, is there anything the operator can do or do they have to solely rely on outside people to get in themselves or abandon mission?

Straight line to the nearest structure, get inside something ASAP.

You need to break line of sight for like 12+ seconds and not make sound for him to not be interested in someone anymore. Terminal guy should be safe inside the ship unless dogs show up. If the giant is camping the ship best to just be quiet, hide and wait for him to go away. It's also possible to kite him around the ship, but unlike the dogs climbing on top doesn't help.
