Our shipmate's practicing the use of Jetpacks and Radio Boosters to great effect aswell on Rend (aka best moon).
I'm usually the muscle of the group. I don't necessarily need a flashlight (albeit prefer one in mansion-layout, especially Dine). I often take a shovel with me and a stun-grenade.
I've practiced a good bit in solo-play so I'm usually pretty consistent in taking care of things, especially killing Nutcrackers. The stun-grenade rarely sees use indoors but has saved our bums plenty of times against Giants, so I often leave that outside the main entrance.
I think walkies are underutilized but I can agree on the notion that the more you play the game, the more attentive you are to navigation and incoming threats and don't need a walkie for that. But its absolutely the best general-communication tool to relay important information quickly.
Calling them 'cowards' is kinda unfair IMO, it's entirely possible the whole team agreed that that would be their job.
More importantly, having someone back at the ship is VERY useful in the event that the bunker is extremely dangerous and everyone inside dies (at which point you would lose all of your collected items, which is especially relevant if you're trying to stock up on a lot of items early on to reach very high quotas). They can also teleport people back onto the ship to save them or at the very least avoid most of the fines that come with leaving behind bodies, assuming you buy a teleporter. At the beginning of the day, it makes sense for everyone to go into the bunker at once to gather as much loot as possible before the entities start spawning, but having one person return to the ship and stay there after gathering a full inventory can be extremely useful.
take shotgun shovel and jetpack
shotgun - deals with bracons and ammo / profit from nutcrackers which is common enough on rend or just comes in clutch when someone needs saving
shovel - can dump at main entrence to kill mimics and spiders easily not worth wasting a shotgun round on them (especially when you can encounter like 4 mimics big waste of rounds)
jetpack - take 1 handed items from point a to point b quickly what more has to be said (including that expendable shovel)
flashlight is nice however to use an item slot just to see better in the dark just isnt worth a slot unless you got a stash of them and they are just disposable (which at that point you got jetpack stun nades etc)
other items are just too gimmicky
and if i wasnt so focused on taking a shotgun just the jetpack which ya know gets dumped at the main entrence so i go in itemless
having a tool in your invintory weighs you down (especially the shovel and shotgun) and takes up a slot making it slower to transport items to the main entrence (which when you are going in deep is just bad)
the issue with items is that they take up 1/4th of your invintory which that alone is extremly damaging you are better off getting good maximising scrap over items to make things easier on you
walkie is underated but you need someone on the ship to be a guide which isnt too bad untill you kinda realise they can just be in there with you grabbing more items or transporting things to the ship so others can explore for longer
For Artifice, often have at least one jetpack being used within a group of four just to reduce the Gold Bar weight from being an issue.
TZP is often taken in when there is something like a Cash Register being found around as late as 5pm rather than right away, and the issue of entities outside makes carrying it from the interior to the ship nearly suicidal/very dangerous
Shovel for certain entities such as Hoarding Bugs, Thumpers, Nutcrackers, or Butlers are spotted within the game, amongst a number of other entities
Stun Grenades when Forest Keepers become especially hostile and often camp certain areas in a way where running is rather dangerous, especially when needing to carry weighted objects back to the ship.
It is rather circumstantial. Pro-Flashlights are only really brought when the Interior is plagued by the Fog effect, to make it less of a hassle (especially since almost every single interior fog I have joined has also been plagued by mines, turrets, and traps, which can be especially obnoxious), and things such as Paint Spray and other objects rather useful is a waste of an inventory space and has a limited amount of uses/cost... the Extension Ladder is circumstantial, being one that I only really used for Adamance and Offense.
But when it is time to Hype, always the Boombox. Boombox is the most important item in the game, way higher than the shovel or jetpack. If you don't think so, you're wrong.
Lights are absolutely a waste of inventory space, even with the default gamma settings.
Ladder for Titan if we feel like wasting our time on this moon.
Shotgun (if we have one).
I guess that's pretty much it.
