Possible Arachnophobia mode?
As the title says, will this be a possibility? Got a close friend who loves horror, but absolutely cannot stand spiders. Was wondering if it was possible to add that mode. You know, replace them with pictures (Satisfactory), turn them into orbs (Grounded), make them Slime creatures, or maybe even turn them into a Cameo of Shrimp from The Upturned!

My friend says it's the legs, the skittering, and the head to body ratio of it. I hope you're able to see this, and I hope this change can happen!

Edit: I chose an answer at random to answer this question. Zeekerss added an official Arachnophobia mode, so closing this off. Thank you, and goodnight!

You can find it under "F_CKSpiders" on the Lethal Company Thunderstore mod page. Let me know if you need any help installing, although there are many guides in the Discord as well.
Bless you good man! Guess now I have an option to play with my gf! Not a perfect solution but... I'll take it

To all who doesn't understand completely what arachnophobia is. It's not about "spiders are scarier than for usual people" and it's not about making scary game less scary. It's about some mental issues when you see the spider and... You basically get extreme panic attack, when you are so out of commission that you will just throw everything away and go to hysteric mode for about 15 minutes, and in serious cases you can even injure yourself. And this is all not about "spiders are scary" but about "spiders" themself. My gf has so serious arachnophobia that cute little spiders in clown costume would maybe not trigger some serious things but still make extreme discomfort to her. Perfect example: she couldn't handle Ms. Tarantula from The Bad Guys movie.

These spider-less mods for scary or spooky or whatever games are not about less scary, it's about safety for some types of people. Don't confuse arachnophobia with spider aversion

I'll be honest, as someone else skeeved out by spiders, the signs don't really help. They're spiderwebs that stretch between walls. Usually this is corners, but occasionally it's a whole hallway, and just the thought of touching a web means I just can't go down that hallway. A lot of buildings have just one path deeper, so this means that I'm sitting out that day if it's too close to the entrance.

Grab a Radio and play the support roll because you can do ♥♥♥♥ to help inside the Ship. Disable turrets, Open doors, warn the party that theres a monster coming, Teleport dead bodies out, if your quick enough teleport people out before they die, Transport scrap all while they are doing the scary part you cant handle

How can you love horror but not love being terrified? That's contradictory.

Fine...an option to turn it into a skittering clown then, and make the webs silly string.

Ok, you're joking, but I would, unironically, like that.

Seeing a lot of these arachnophobia posts popping up these days in various games, and I am getting kind of sick of it... No offence meant.
I know you mean well, and so do the other friends and family of arachnophobia sufferers, but there is a reason it is usually posts made by friends and family, and not by us sufferers ourselves.

Avoiding our phobias does not work, it makes it worse, way worse over time, like a gnawing cancer. And it can spiral into brand new phobias being developed like a contagion(speaking from experience).
What you are doing is what we call in my country a "bjørnetjeneste"(a bear favor), A well-intentioned disservice that only makes things worse down the line.

Us arachnophobia sufferers can only really be helped with exposure therapy, which has a proven track record.
Games like this, and games in general, were the beginnings of my own exposure therapy, before graduating to tolerating real life spiders.

If I had done no exposure therapy I would still be paralyzed with fear by spiders, and I do mean paralyzed.
Had a spider crawling on me while I was in bed, it was like what people with sleep paralysis report. I could only stare at the spider on my chest, tears running down my cheek, unable to even scream... Counting the seconds until it mercifully crawled away on its own...

What got me to do exposure therapy was the sickening realization that if someone I cared for needed CPR(for example), and if there was a spider on them, I would probably be unable to snap out of it to help them.
I do not want to be that person...

Am I cured? No, but I can tolerate a spider being in the same room as myself now, which is a lot better than where I was years ago. Can I pick them up bare handed? No, but I am working on one day getting there.

Don't rob your friends and family of the chance to experience spiders in a safe virtual environment. It doesn't help them in the long run to just keep running. :csdread:

And please don't take this the wrong way, I know you mean well, and I hope your friend appreciates it.

Have a good evening everyone. :whiteward:

"i want to play a scary game that isnt scary"
One thing that anyone willing to do is make a mod to change the model to something not spider

the game accepts mods, the community can do it themselfs to create any phobia option anyone might have
Bread-kun Nov 21, 2023 @ 10:15pm
Being a bit scared of spiders isn't unusual considering their appearance and movements come across as more 'alien' to us. That's honestly fairly natural. To be honest the amount of people that have some legitimately crippling fear of spiders is... Astronomically small far smaller then the amount of poeple advocating for arachnophobia modes would let on.

Just accept that a scary game has a monster that is considered creepy and vaguely scary by most people and if you really cant then sure just dont play it then.

I too was absolutely freaked out about spiders many years ago and wouldn't go near one but I do think just seeing them in media constantly sorta relaxed my fear about them, and eventually sorta researching them and tbh especially seeing a lot of videos and reading on jumping spiders made me grow to sorta appreciate em in a weird way.

Now do one for all the lethal monsters. And the non-lethal ones too. Just all of em.

Dude it's just somebody with a phobia, not a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Hapsburg. People have been *irrationally* terrified of spiders since before your grandfather was ever conceived. It's totally normal.

Like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I think an arachnophobia mode is pointless too, but people get so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ uppity and judgmental over ♥♥♥♥ that won't ever even affect them. It's like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and moaning over colorblind modes when your eyesight is fine. You're a clown and everyone is laughing at you.

OH GOD FORBID IT'S LESS SCARY
FOR THEM
AND NOT YOU
AND YOU WOULDN'T KNOW IT
BUT OH GOD THIS OPTION WOULD RUIN *MY* GAME

And you call the arachnophobes babies lawl

Ok, but there's scared, and then there's having someone unable to play the game because of a phobia, and it's only due to one monster. Not asking for it to be deleted, just an option to have it changed. Still scary, just not "Completely put off the game" scary.
why did you bought the game then?
its a horror game, a lot of horror games have spiders in them, dont buy horror games.
you knew into what you throw yourself.

There's a difference between having a scare, and being mentally shutdown from something that you absolutely cannot stand. People LIKE being scared, people like seeing OTHER PEOPLE being scared. The point of a coop horror game, is to SCARE each other, not make them ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cry and plead that they die. I suffer from an extreme version of arach, I cannot look at webs, they scare me ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ just by looking at them, or knowing they exist near me. I've gone into complete shutdowns from them, and a single stupid enemy isnt gonna ruin the game for me or anyone else. What was even the point of you commenting on this post,
It's like going to a thread on reddit like r/cooking and then saying to someone "why tf would you not use peanut oil?"
