These spider-less mods for scary or spooky or whatever games are not about less scary, it's about safety for some types of people. Don't confuse arachnophobia with spider aversion
I'll be honest, as someone else skeeved out by spiders, the signs don't really help. They're spiderwebs that stretch between walls. Usually this is corners, but occasionally it's a whole hallway, and just the thought of touching a web means I just can't go down that hallway. A lot of buildings have just one path deeper, so this means that I'm sitting out that day if it's too close to the entrance.
Fine...an option to turn it into a skittering clown then, and make the webs silly string.
I know you mean well, and so do the other friends and family of arachnophobia sufferers, but there is a reason it is usually posts made by friends and family, and not by us sufferers ourselves.
Avoiding our phobias does not work, it makes it worse, way worse over time, like a gnawing cancer. And it can spiral into brand new phobias being developed like a contagion(speaking from experience).
What you are doing is what we call in my country a "bjørnetjeneste"(a bear favor), A well-intentioned disservice that only makes things worse down the line.
Us arachnophobia sufferers can only really be helped with exposure therapy, which has a proven track record.
Games like this, and games in general, were the beginnings of my own exposure therapy, before graduating to tolerating real life spiders.
If I had done no exposure therapy I would still be paralyzed with fear by spiders, and I do mean paralyzed.
Had a spider crawling on me while I was in bed, it was like what people with sleep paralysis report. I could only stare at the spider on my chest, tears running down my cheek, unable to even scream... Counting the seconds until it mercifully crawled away on its own...
What got me to do exposure therapy was the sickening realization that if someone I cared for needed CPR(for example), and if there was a spider on them, I would probably be unable to snap out of it to help them.
I do not want to be that person...
Am I cured? No, but I can tolerate a spider being in the same room as myself now, which is a lot better than where I was years ago. Can I pick them up bare handed? No, but I am working on one day getting there.
Don't rob your friends and family of the chance to experience spiders in a safe virtual environment. It doesn't help them in the long run to just keep running.
And please don't take this the wrong way, I know you mean well, and I hope your friend appreciates it.
Have a good evening everyone.
the game accepts mods, the community can do it themselfs to create any phobia option anyone might have
Just accept that a scary game has a monster that is considered creepy and vaguely scary by most people and if you really cant then sure just dont play it then.
I too was absolutely freaked out about spiders many years ago and wouldn't go near one but I do think just seeing them in media constantly sorta relaxed my fear about them, and eventually sorta researching them and tbh especially seeing a lot of videos and reading on jumping spiders made me grow to sorta appreciate em in a weird way.
Dude it's just somebody with a phobia, not a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Hapsburg. People have been *irrationally* terrified of spiders since before your grandfather was ever conceived. It's totally normal.
OH GOD FORBID IT'S LESS SCARY
FOR THEM
AND NOT YOU
AND YOU WOULDN'T KNOW IT
BUT OH GOD THIS OPTION WOULD RUIN *MY* GAME
And you call the arachnophobes babies lawl
There's a difference between having a scare, and being mentally shutdown from something that you absolutely cannot stand. People LIKE being scared, people like seeing OTHER PEOPLE being scared. The point of a coop horror game, is to SCARE each other, not make them ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cry and plead that they die. I suffer from an extreme version of arach, I cannot look at webs, they scare me ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ just by looking at them, or knowing they exist near me. I've gone into complete shutdowns from them, and a single stupid enemy isnt gonna ruin the game for me or anyone else. What was even the point of you commenting on this post,
It's like going to a thread on reddit like r/cooking and then saying to someone "why tf would you not use peanut oil?"
