both fun ideas
To take it a step further (if even possible), could have the game recording the audio of people's mics, and then have the mimics occasionally play back brief audio clips.
definitely a big fan of this idea though, was thinking of it while I was playing with friends too
I think the "tell" would be it not responding to you. It could even occasionally make a weird noise too. Also the shape shifting animation could take a little bit so its possible to catch him in the act. I think to be less OP it can't just attack you immediately. There needs to be something that happens to give the player a chance. Like maybe it doesn't walk up to you and only attacks if you come to it? Just a few thoughts.
It would be hard for the developers to implement this though. There are a lot of privacy laws surrounding users data, especially users voices. Just keep that in mind.
It can lure 1 guy to a random far room (something like flower guy with corpses)
If player stays alone/far away from other teammates near mimic - it acts similar to bracken => instakill
(ie a copy of their voice is saved to every players local computer temporarily for playback, short mp3 recordings are small anyways so it wouldnt impact anyone)
even if someone did grab those files for whatever reason you could do the same with any recording software
if you wanted to elaborate on the idea a little further it could have an optional opt-in for it to periodically save some of your voice lines to use in other lobbies, which i think personally would be really cool to spice it up a bit (so its not just repeating things you already said to your current teammates previously)
