I use mirage myself, I do like it quite a bit more.
Mirages in pop culture in the last 40 odd years have absolutely had full blown conversations with things that aren't what they seem to be. They tend to be audio AND visual hallucinations.
Now imagine you lose track of your buddy, and you find him further in. It looks like your buddy, sounds like your buddy, but it's actually something else entirely then what it appears to be. Mirage checks out
I could point to an endless sea of cartoons in which they interact with and speak to the mirages they see, and the mirages interact and speak back. You can find examples of this even dating back to the early days of Tom and Jerry, Loonie Toons, and Hannah Barbara cartoons. I'm sure if I looked at movies, I could find plenty that do this too.
And how many times do we see them talk to the mirage and it talks back? Tons upon tons. It's up there almost in line with the hallucination of the oasis with a palm tree.
Guess I just know more then most people on the topic then.
