That's true, and that's usually my strategy, too. It feels really tedious, though, especially with the frequency at which the lightning strikes happen, and especially when it seems that the sounds for an imminent lightning strike can feel inconsistent at times.
I feel like I have a somewhat decent understanding of how to play in a storm, it's just not fun and it doesn't feel challenging. I feel like there could be a way to make the stormy weather condition less tedious and more rewarding for what it is.
"Drop all of your stuff when you hear lightning is about to strike" isn't a difficult concept to grasp, it's just not fun. At least, I don't find it fun, and as a result I usually just go to different planets.
The only thing that's really unfair about it is when you just get randomly hit by stray lightning. But at least it's rare and part of the fun. I've yet to be hit by stray lightning and I've played stormy respectably a lot
I guess my title is a bit misleading, yeah. But I would argue that there's a difference between "challenging" and "tedious". As it stands, I would say that the stormy moons aren't challenging at all, they just require that you go through an extremely tedious and not fun process. That is, the current solutions that everyone has provided here, while helpful for navigating the stormy weather as it is, DON'T require "skill" to execute. They just require you to go as slowly as possible, put bait out somewhere, or hope you don't get struck randomly. The stormy weather isn't challenging, it's just annoying and exceedingly powerful.
Either way, none of this changes the fact that your original response wasn't helpful at all and didn't contribute to the discussion whatsoever.
