Ok we don't need the spike traps.
I actually really enjoy a lot of what was brought to the table with v50's beta... But I think I can speak for the majority of players when I say: We don't need these spike traps.

They don't really serve a unique function to the game. Snare fleas were already the incentive to watch the ceiling, and the spike traps are just bigger snare fleas that insta-kill you, don't have tactics to avoid/kill them, and force the player to pause and wait in a way that's more obnoxious than hazardous.

In addition, they look horrible. Every one I've seen is clipping into walls, and some don't even orientate themselves in the proper direction. They blend in far too easily to the pipe-lain environment as well. The ones on a timer are a massive audio problem too as they're super loud and distracting from the more original threats you WANT to listen out for, less a coil head sneaks up on you from behind.

Dying to these things is always more frustrating too. Dying to a snare flea is much more enjoyable because you can try to escape, you can scream and freak out, causing your friends to watch and either help or laugh. With a spike trap it's just OOPS, you're flat now. Even more insta-kill enemies like brackens offer some ominous appeal and occasional shifts in strategy, but spike traps are... Pretty much just less funny, more obnoxious land mines that stomp at you constantly.

If the spike traps are left in the game, here are some ideas that might make them more pleasant, pick and choose which ones would be the most beneficial:

- Only put spike traps in specialized rooms. This solves the obnoxious nature of the spike traps, and the visual issues of the traps as well.

- Reduce the noise of the spike traps as they're super loud, or at least reduce the range of their noise.

- Add more sounds for the spike traps, like metal creaking before one is about to spring.

- Increase the wait period between slams. Constant slams every 2 seconds is more obnoxious than anything.

- Allow the spike traps to kill certain enemies. If I have to avoid these things, brackens and spiders better have to do the same.

- Given that a factory isn't really the kind of place you'd expect to find a spike trap, and unlike turrets and land mines don't really fall into the same "Impromptu-defense deployables" excuse for being there, maybe we can wait and give the spike trap it's own interior. Like you'd have Mansion, Factory, Extended Factory, and, say, underground bunker where spike traps would show up to provide an extra threat, alongside a series of other traps unique to the bunker. That way you'd still have spike traps, but they wouldn't be as big of an annoyance to the rest of the game, and would fit the atmosphere better.

I agree, they kinda suck in their current state, nothing but annoying

yeah i'm not a fan of them either
This was brilliantly worded, I'm not partial towards the spike traps either.

They dont even make sense. Turrets - sure, to protect facility/mantion from intruders. Mines - same, but give more crazy-ass owner vibes. But spike traps? Why would anyone put f-ing spike traps in their house? They are pain in the ass to install and they look like ♥♥♥♥. I wouldn't want to work in a factory with one of these hanging above me in every corridor. It is not a **** temple.

Yeah, agreed, they're stupid. Had one kill me while I was hunting around in the mist for a valve. Wtf do I do against that.

Also had this one moon that was absolutely carpeted in spike traps and landmines. Completely impossible to navigate.

a rolling boulder rampaging through the facility honestly sounds so funny i'd take that over the spike trap lol

I've seen some gameplay vids of it, and yea I gotta agree that it doesn't seem 'fun' to go against.

OverZhorman makes a good point on that they just don't fit the theme of Lethal Company.

This plus a Thumper, Spider, ghost girl, coil, or an angry bracken means game progression is gonna slow to a crawl; But this wouldn't be a problem if we aren't already pressed for time as it is.

Hopefully the idea can get revised into possibly it's own spot as OP mentioned, otherwise this is gonna be painful on top of the shovel nerf.

Just have a whole temple-themed interior. Rolling ball traps, put all the spike traps in there, and maybe even crumbling hallways that destroy your way back.

Also add an Immortal Snail just to be extra secure!

he isn't tho??? this is constructive criticism over a certain feature, this isn't like the other posts of people just going "HURR DURR GAME BAD", this is actual criticism that can be used to better the game

Hold the clown awards, but - counterpoint...

The spike traps, yes, are a pain in the ass, but they come in handy when killing enemies. If you are strategic with your pathing, you can use them to your advantage!

At the time of posting this, spike traps do not deal damage to enemies.
