And the way the player's model looks, it resembles obvious male proportions with wide shoulders, thinner lower body. It's especially blatant when you compare it to the female big tit mod model, or even it's less voluptuous versions and attempts at making a female model. You can't tell if someone's male or female when they wear realistic full plate mail or an astronaut suit. You can with lethal company models.
So, you can call it suspense of disbelief and cartoony style, but I'm calling the two commentators above me to be full of sheat. The suit might be unisex, but the default crew model is not. I can't even claim that the most roided female bodybuilders will resemble body proportions of the default model, because they'd still have huge thighs and leg triceps. It would look much different with how much you might presume there's air inside the suit, that might be averaging proportions out.
