Weird mimic bug / mod / hack I encountered

On one of the public games my teammates and I encountered some weird mimic bug. No matter what moon we were playing (even trading moon), one mimic was constantly spawning near the ship, teleported around and did "killing" animation on players, without actually killing them and leaving them with half of their screen red permanently. As far as I know, nobody had mods installed or anything. Have anyone encountered this?

Probably control company. The host can spawn in and control enemies like the mimic, even on the company moon. They can also despawn the enemy partway through the kill animation as to not actually kill the person.
Only the host needs to run the mod, so you could be on a completely unmodded game and still be able to join their modded lobby.

I literally had the same thing happen to me yesterday,, one of our guys was dead and the other was on the ship with me? Did you hear a deep laugh coming from the mimic?

I don't remember much. Crew was slavic though, so I wasn't with you if that's what you're asking
