A giant skull.

A bio-mechanical abomination of unknown origins.

Might share a common creator with the Nutcrackers and Coilheads, considering how the first is a mix of flesh and machine, too, and the latter, while apparently entirely mechanical, still feels like it has a will of its own.

Jesters are also most common on moons where nutcrackers spawn, adding to that theory. Nutcrackers require slow, cautious movements to escape— Jesters demand fast movements to leave the facility before they pop. A deadly duo, if they spawn together. Perhaps they were designed to work together, defenders of the house?

I want to believe someone or something created this thing. He should have given the poor lad shoes, though.
My headcanon is since they're essentially invincible killing machines, they're probably in the same bracket as Coilheads. They must be superweapons/biomechanical experiments, seeing as something as domestic as a jack-in-the-box is clearly man-made. Someone with a particularly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up imagination as well, to make such a thing. Someone probably left on the base with too much time on their hands and move live colonists to work with before other monsters moved in. The fact there's no scientific records of it also indicate its something that was created or appeared after all colonists died, but before the Company sent in employees.

Both are very interesting considerations.

The Mansion spawn rates for such creatures, coupled with that place's overall aesthetic, also further reinforces the feeling that whoever built it and used to live there was no ordinary person.

Everything is enshrouded by a sinister aura in there.

box
the jester along with some of the other entities must be similar to the "Lethal Company CEO/Boss"

On a more serious note, i believe that the jesters are not man-made, but more of a hermit crab, finding an object to live in and then wandering around. by the fleshy appearance of the skull, i would assume its head and organs are tender and fragile, thus the box as camouflage.. the box could aid in hunting, making itself less threatening to both humans and monsters. the music might help in luring prey, as well, though i do not have much faith in it.

second theory, devs hate us all and want us to theorise over a stupid music guy who has no lore at all :/

I've been wondering if the nutcracker and jester have a connection to the ghost girl. With the presence of multiple children's toys in the facilities (especially common on mansion maps), it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume children were once present inside these buildings. Ghost girl is further evidence, as why would she haunt these places if she had never been there before?
I wonder if the nutcracker and jester were designed with these children in mind. An effective killing machine concealed in a whimsical outer shell, as to not disturb the children, such as the once-not-ghost girl, they once guarded?

The facilities have obviously been designed to protect something, and I doubt it's the metal sheets we find within. I suspect these colorful guardsmen failed their job long ago, and they may never realise it.

The jester is a award found on the platform steam, it is commonly used whenever one person disagrees or believes someones opinion is either a bait post or jester worthy.

Some people may take this as an advantage as it's wind up time is relatively short and awards free points. which are used to purchase steam items, what are steam points? steam points are digital points awarded by 100 for every $1 spent on steam.

you can spend this currency on steam 'items' which may attribute to the wide spread need to post things like bait to get steam points to get items.

-(not)chapgt.
