That said, LC-API also requires BepInEx as a prereq, so people need that as well at a minimum. What else are you trying to run?
I host, he joins, he has a file that i don't have and BAM, can't play together anymore, even though it should be the exact other way around.
Someone who has all mods available should be able to play on every server, because the game can just switch off all the mods the server doesn't have. But no! Doesn't work like that! Would make too much sense!
But you can join servers that have assets that are not even on your computer and they get displayed correctly? How the hell does that work??? I mean i know how it COULD work, but if THAT works, why do people who join even need any mods? Just download the mods from the server if you can load assets from the server anyways!
TLDR; Sucks that mod makers are not smart enough to tell you exactly who needs the mods, or if having a mod screws up the game if the server doesn't have it.
Generally speaking, we use Thunderstore to generate a code, that allows everyone to auto-download all the same mods, and then people just need to hit update on them each time they play.
oh i didnt know you can create a code, is it like the full list of mods code or?
Basically, While You Are in Thunderstore Mod Manager, there is A Share Button at the Top When You Are in Your Mod Server. When you press share, it shows a code that you can copy and paste to show your friends. When your friends get the code, they use it to automatically download the mods you are currently using at once. I did that with one of my friends so that we could get to playing faster instead of me telling him all the mods that i have currently enabled. Hope this helped!
Manual is fine if you know what you're doing and are only playing with like, More Company and another small pool of mods. Moment you're trying to really expand your mod roster or when there's a lot of technical difficulties when installing mods is when you really should just let a mod manager do it for you.
Also LC_API just effectively tells you the list of mods people have when connecting, almost no mod depends on LC_API. If you're doing code sharing, you'll already know someone's mod list if that said someone is one you sent the code to.
