Lethal Company

Lethal Company

What are the chances that this game will face the same fate that among us,fall guys did?
No negative thread, just a discussion I wanted to have.We all have seen how a game from a small studio comes out of nowhere and it is the big thing and people are going crazy, etc.Fast forward to a year later and only the core community of the game is left. Not to mention that main game has clones all over the place and if any of one clones turns out to be better(price, updates, etc) than the main game will be hurt by it.

Among us,fall guys, splitgate, battlebit remastered etc.All met that same fate.I am going to give you a quick brief of the state of 2 games. My main focus will on player numbers gathered through Steamdb.

Among us has a player count ranging from 4k to 8k.It's clone goose goose duck has players 2k to 25k players. Now I may be wrong but as far as I know goose goose devs don't monetize the game through in-game microtransactions.

Fall guys isn't in a good spot(in my opinion). Its removal from steam paved way for stumble guys success.Guaranteed that fall guys is free on epic store and consoles,a lot of us hardcore steam users(including me) won't bother with it.Its removal has done wonders for stumble guys cause its average player count is 7k with 24 hour peaks going to 10k players.Fall guys is dead in the water at least on steam.Epic and other store publishers are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for not showing actual player numbers. Can't even imagine how many braindead kids and adults are playing some random shovelware on playstore or ios store.

Now comes the main question:What is the fate of lethal company as time goes on?Will it live or forgotten? What makes you think the game is here to stay?

tldr:Some games reach the charts out of nowhere and are quickly forgotten because of certain factors. In your opinion what is the fate of lethal company going to be?

honestly, i'm not sure. It's got more depth than among us and fall guys, and it seems like kids haven't invaded & ruined it (yet, i guess) - so for now, i'd say it's fine.

i know one of my friends is annoyed that the dev hasn't fixed any of the major issues said friend has faced, but it seems like most people kinda don't care and are just having a laugh with a group.

i personally haven't played much since i'm pretty boring and as such kinda ruin the "lol your friend overreacted to dying" part of the game lmao

Why are you worried about this game stopping being popular?
Most players will be gone at some point, so what?
You only need 3 players, and you can even play in LAN.

I wish the dev just builds what he wants to build and move on to another project, instead of keep broadening the target demographic and shifting the game's focus to keep active players.

I'd offer to retort and give opinions, but it feels like you've already got your own. Your wording suggests you already know how *you* think it'll play out.

That said, what you've described at the start is called "Competition" and is something everything faces in every industry. If the main-game doesn't adapt to be better than it's competitor, then it has deservedly lost it's place.

Regarding your second point, Among Us is multi-platform and is on basically everything. It's not suffering *at all*. Same goes for Fall Guys. Splitgate is certainly suffering the most of the games you've listed, at only 300 in-game right now (6:30 PM CST so fairly peak hours) that's not great given it's all-time peak was 67k. Battlebit Remastered is at 6.4k, all time peak 87k but it seems on average over 10k players. So I'd say it's doing just fine. If these numbers are anything to go by, Lethal Company will be just fine. It's at 99k right now and a 24 hour peak of 168k. It has been on a significant upwards trend. As long as the dev keeps updating the game at their current pace, it'll be just fine. Especially if they keep interesting content coming and if mods keep up at their current rate.

I don't think you've been playing on Public Servers. Just play the game on private servers. Done. Same goes for Among Us. Falls guys, it doesn't matter if kids are playing it at all.

What are the "Major Issues"?

We can tell.
Nothing lasts forever. Babylon, the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the Axis Powers. Everything rises and falls at some point. That is life. Just enjoy the moment. Gather some friends and have a laugh. Focus on the small things that make life worth living.

Whenever people bring this up, they seem to mention negative examples as if these are the only ones. Deep Rock Galactic is doing great with constant updates and reliable player numbers. Its average players on Steam sits at 13k, which is great for a 5 year old game. It's peaked at 20k players in the last-30 days, which it's matched or exceeded for the last 15 months.

Games like Stardew Valley are very different, but so are Battlebit and Splitgate. It's averaged 35k and peaked at 58k in the last 30 days, which makes that its second-best month in the last 3 years.

Dead by Daylight is an 8 year-old game holding at 30k with 46k peak in last-30. It's dipped below 30k average all of one month (to 29.9k) in the last 4 years.

Phasmophobia is more than 3 years old and just did 17k average and 35k peak in last-30.

Lethal Company is two months old, at 113k average and 239k peak, and that's just on Steam. Its average is higher than the all-time peaks of each of those four still very successful games I mentioned.

Even if/when it does erode, there's such a vast player base to erode through that even that process is going to take a long time - and if the dev stays active, it'll slow any erosion even more.

Whenever someone brings up negative examples, we suddenly pretend that previous successful ones don't exist. But they do, and most of what we'd all agree are games with lasting success never peaked anywhere close to what Lethal Company is doing.

Heavily depends on how the developer decides to handle mod-related griefing. Right now pubs are pretty rough if you want to avoid suicide bombers or item/money spawners. Having to go to community discords or forums to find other players that you know won't ruin your game is a telltale sign of an early death sentence, even for successful titles. You should be able to trust a game's public lobbies, at least for the most part.
It's also not a particularly fun game to host when you can't set conditions like latency, region or microphone.
If things continue the way they are the game will likely stay active enough to play, but miserable unless you have great luck with people joining or play exclusively in friend-only lobbies.
