Almost 99% of all player model replacement mods are client-side, meaning only ONE person can have the mod and everything else will work just fine. You need to have them install whatever modpack/mods you both want to use together and both of you install a separate player model mod. You'll both see each other as different things, but the game will play just the same.
Don't install multiple model mods on top of one another or else the models will overlap and it'll just look stupid.
Just check the mod tags and look for the words "Client-side". This just means you can install the mod by yourself without your friend also having to have the mod
"Server-side" means everyone has to have the mod.
Basically, if your friend installs only the model mod everything will work just fine, and only he can see the among us crewmates.
